I have backed several bows in the past and am thinking of skinning a beautiful osage PLX. I'd like to leave part of each limb uncovered. Question: has anyone ever skinned the back of part of each limb and left some portion of the limb uncovered to show the wood? don't know if this would look good or if it would cause separation since only a part of the limb would be covered.Any thoughts??

rap each end with brite string it will look good. loyd

Haven't done it, but no reason it shouldn't work.  If you glue and varnish well, it shouldn't lift up.  After all, all skins have edges on the sides and top and bottom of the limbs.  You're just changing the position of the edges.

That's what I thought Orion! Just wondered how it would look and if anyone ever tried it before.

I recently gave an Osage R/D selfbow to a friend with Copperheads that tapered to point and covered about 2/3 of the limb. This bow looks really good. It's a good way to utilize skins that are long enough to cover the entire limb.

It's done often and you can get a lot of help in the Bowyer's Bench.
