Anyone have experience hunting this piece of ground for elk/deer?  Considering putting together a hunt there for 2009.

Sorry, can't help you, but I just had to respond as your question brought back memories of when I hunted there in 1966 and 67'. Beautiful area !!!

    Just talked with a few friends out there.and they were saying that around 25Mesa and windy point are both excellant areas.

I hunted it this year - beautiful terrain and great elk habitat, BUT it gets hit VERY heavily by other hunters.  If you go, go early as I went late this year.  You can tell there were plenty of elk there at one time, but they high-tailed it outta there when the pressure was on. I moved to another chunk of ground after hunting it for 3 days.

The west side of the Uncompaghre Plateau is unit 61 which is a draw. It takes quite a few preference points to draw in there.  Since it is a very limited entry unit the hunting there is  very good.  The east side is Unit 62 which is an over-the-counter area for elk.  All  deer hunting is by draw.  Unit 62 gets a lot of pressure.  Also there are a lot of other activities going on in both units, camping, hiking, bike riding, bear  hunters, grouse  hunters, motorcycle  and 4-wheeler riders, etc.  The two units are separated by Divide Road.

Jimscol pretty well sums it up.  There are a lot of 4 wheel trails in 62 but there is a wilderness area called Robideau.
