Hi, I'm new to the forum. I wanted to get started and here I saw the recommendation for Pequest Valley Archery up in Buttzville, NJ.  I went, and Scott, the proprietor, is a very knowledgeable and trusty guy to talk to.  He simply loves to support traditional archery.

Unfortunately, the bad news.  He's closing as a retail venue.  For several reasons he and his partner can't support the side business. I told him where I got the referral, and he said, "Yeah, I'm surprised nobody posted that I was closing." So I'm posting.

You can still call him with questions.  At his urging I asked around among my friends, and lo and behold, somebody had a Bear Tigercat (62", 45#, green) in their attic that they bought at a garage sale for $15. Yippee!  I'll bring it to Scott so that we can check it out and give it a try.

I'm not quite sure about the status of discounted wares, etc. He is looking forward to attending more weekend events, now that he doesn't have to mind the store.

Happy snow y'all

Hey Tracy, Welcome to TG, lots of good folks on here, not to mention some of the big guys in bowhunting post here quite often, which is real nice.

Yeah, that's a real bummer about PVA, I used to spend a lot of time there,(and if you ask my wife, too much money!) ha

I used to live and hunt in the Califon area, some real good deer hunting over there, of course house have sprouted from some of my old prime spots.

I have known Bill and Scott for many  years now. Great Folks and always willing to share their Trad Knowledge. If you check the archives you will see that yes it was posted by myself and a bunch of the "Jersey Local Boys"We used to meet up there and shoot the bows and the breeze a bunch. I'm  very sorry to see them go for sure.         The only pure Trad Shop around the area.     :notworthy:     They were members of the Appalacian[spelling] Bowmen and were at all the Whittingham Shoots spring and summer Scott said he will always make strings once they close the shop for good. I spend alot of time Fly Fishing Ken Lockwood Gorge in the spring if I'm not working. Califon is a great little town . They know me as Tom from Pequannock.

Welcome.  Yep the last of the trad only archery shops in NJ is gone.  I was there a couple of months ago and they were pretty much all sold out.

Hi Tracy welcome to TradGang. I've had some fun times hanging at PVA. Scott and Bill are a couple class acts. I'll miss going there to try out bows and having Scott build me my bow strings.

We found out about PVA closing back in the early summer I think and it was talked about here amongst the NJ/PA crowd we hang and hunt with.

Yep, I've had some great times hanging out at PVA, talking to Scott (only met Bill once), shooting for hours at a time.

I made the mistake of taking my wife there once. It was shortly after I had surgery this fall and I needed someone to drive - I had to get some of those GTs they had on sale. When we finally got back in the car, my wife said "don't EVER expect me to go there with you again! You just spent 2 hours talking about bowhunting. I've never been so bored in all my life!" I turned to her and told her not to worry, she wouldn't have to go there with me again, since they were closing at the end of the year.
