Wow, nice Elk. You guys sure had a great hunt with every body bagging game like that. Congrats.
I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

So for a little bit of the story. I left work at 8pm on the 12th to drive four and a half hours north to my home town. It was going to be a good year no matter what. I was going to hunt with my Dad and many other friends. One who is enjoying his first year bowhunting. My Dad started him out right with a longbow.

I pulled into town at about 2 in the am. After getting a few things gathered I went to a friends house for a quick nap. Exited about the adventure at had I got no sleep. My friend and I got up at about 4:30 and started the long trip to the mountians. My Dad and a few others had already been in camp a few days so I wanted to get there in time to hunt that morning.

When I arrived in camp they where waiting for me to go on there morning hunt with them. I gathered my gear and we where off. The morning was a little slim we did not see any elk but chased a few birds.

We went to camp got some chow and i listened to the stories of the time i had missed in camp. Two thirty came around and I decided that it was time to go see what I could find. I know a place where I almost always find elk so I thought that I would check there.

The others went to a place that they had seen elk the night before.

As I climbed the ridge in a sleet snow blizard visability was nearly nothing. The caynons I wanted to glass where whited out. As I moved around the hill to get a better view of what little I could see. I spotted a calf up an feeding in the bottom of a draw that cut the ridge I was on.

Knowing that the calf was probly not alone I started to stalk closer. Watching the wind and glassing constanty I eased in.

I could find no sign of the calf or any other elk though. I kept getting closer and closer. Then I saw him bedded 80 yards a great bull.

I moved in close as he got up from his nap. 30 yards quatering away I loosed my arrow and had my bull. with help from som good frinds I got him back to camp and we have been eating good ever since. See there was not much left to tell anyway.

You are my hero!  What a nice bull and great hunt!  It has always been a dream of mine togo on a hunt like you did with your Dad.  I always wanted to go on a fishing trip to Canada with my Dad (He was crippled by polio when a child, and it was difficult for him to hunt), but he loved to fish.  I guess now I'm the father and if I can do it I want to go elk hunting with my son before it is too late! Thanks for this reminder!

Ya know Randy, the fact that I signed your leave form, doesn't that entitle me to a few steaks?
