Howdy, Does anyone use leather tip protectors? A Are they used on both tips or just the bottom tip. If they are used on both tips, what are the tricks needed to install the top tip and string the bow simultaniously?

What are your thoughts on tip protectors regarding reduced performance?

Thanks in advance!

I used a leather tip protector and it seemed noisy.  It may just have not fit right.  Now I use the rubber ones from 3Rivers, just on the bottom limb.  I don't know about any reduction in performance.

What, me worry?

The tip protector is designed to be placed over the bottom tip.  It's only purpose is to protect the tip if it is placed on the ground. Keep the finish from being rubbed off, which in turn will keep out the dreded moisture.

I don't care for leather because unlike rubber or plastic, it will allow moisture in, it gets wet from dew, rain, and humidity.  I prefer rubber, then plastic. I recommend taking the rubber or plastic off if you are in the rain for extended periods of time, or if you happen to to take a tumble in the drink.  Take a clean dry towel, remove the string, wipe and dry off the bow tip, and allow to air dry.  I then take a Q-tip, dipped in alcohol, rub the inside of the tip protector.  The alcohol will cause the water to evaporate faster.  Take the other end of the Q-tip and swab the inside of tip dry. Rubber tip protectors can easily be turned inside out.   Let it set for a while, in a place where it can air out, and then return the protector to the bow tip.

I use a leather lace up one on my bottom tip only! Looks much cooler than the rubber or plastic and functions the same if you ask me unless you use your bow as a walking stick like some guys!   :archer:

I use a custom fit leather or black rubber tip protectors from 3Rivers Archery.  Both work well for me.  But, as Scott J. says, if your bow gets wet, best to pull the tip protector and dry things out.

Thanks for the responses guys. I was hoping it was only for the bottom tip. Didn't have much trouble figuring out how to get that one on. The top would ahve been a different deal.

Leather seems to make the bow louder to me.
It's not the arrival, it's the journey.

I use a leather tip protector. Even though I like the looks of it I think I'll get a rubber one this year...the leather protector squeaks, as you draw,  if its even  a little wet...on my bow anyways.
Maybe it's too tight and stretches? dunno for sure but I can do without it.

SCATTERSHOT

I use a leather protector on the bottom limb only. I bought one years ago and made a pattern from it, now I make my own. No downside for me, as I live in a dry climate.

I use leather tip protectors from 3 rivers on my bows and haven't noticed any issues from noise.  Plus, I think the leather looks better.
