I'm looking for info on bowhunting in France - specifically I can base out of the Strasbourg area or near Verdun.  I know the new changes to the regulations and I'm trying to put together a sanglier hunt next time I get over there.  Anyone have any leads?  I can trade for whitetails and possibly put something else together in the US.  I posted on trade a hunt too, but thought I put a note here for more exposure.  Not interested in estate type hunt.

Secondly...I know how the forest-block renting system goes, but can farmers/landowners hunt on thier own property if not in the "forest"...and give permission to others to do same?

Thanks!

Interesting question - I honestly have never heard of nor seen a story of anyone hunting anything in France. I don't know what kind of wild game they have if any.

Yes they can, especially if they own a minimum acreage.

You'll have very interesting opportunities for sangliers in the Sologne (100 mi south west Paris) area, where the brush, wooden parcels make for a very interesting hunts.

Traditionally they are hunted by drives made with dogs, so you have running targets. You'll have to specify that you want to hunt "a l'affut" (from a blind) or "a l'approche" (stalking)

There are outfitters, they can save you a lot of time and research.

If you need translations, let me know. There are a few tradgangers from france here.

Hunting has a long tradition in France - very ingrained in the culture of the rural areas.  In the area I mentioned, where my wife is from, the primary game animals are red deer, roe deer and sanglier (european boar).  Down south they have wild mouflon and chamois.

Bowhunting is a relatively new concept (ENTIRELY new to the hunters I talked to over there).

Yes, bowhunting was banned up to the late 90s

You'll have fun for sure, the sangliers are a smart and courageous game!

Good luck to you Ryan

I've seen them called "Russian boar", or "razorbacks" too

An amazing  game species

Ryan,
I know they use  broadheads in France, perhaps your question might get a better responce on this forum.
