I'm in the market for another (I've had a few) 3 piece takedown R/D longbow. It needs to be 58-60"s and mid 40# range. I like the looks of the:
RER LX
FireFly
ACS CX
just to mention a few.

I want something cut well past center. VERY smooth. VERY quiet. NO handshock and better than average speed with a comfortable grip WITHOUT breaking the bank. I really like the look of the grips on the FireFly and the ACS.

Tell me what ya'll have shot within these specs and how it measured up to my request.

thanks

There are so many good ones out there that I would go to one of the big shoots this year and try them out. All you have mentioned above are excellent bows and I do not think you would be disappointed with any of them.

I own a Morrison Shawnee and can not say enough good things about the bows. Bob make a great bow and he and Barb are so easy to work with.

My dad owns a RER LXR and I had a chance to shoot while I was at home. Kevin and Sue make a heckuva bow and are some of the nicest folks to deal with.

Also I have a Dryad Orion with recurve and longbow limbs on order. Mike and Jason make some great bows and if it is anything like my Soothsayer it is going to be a great bow.

All these bows are stable, quick, and feel great in the hand.

To pick the best one IMO would be too hard and I would not want to attempt it. That is why I have a wall full of bows and more on the way.

Best of luck in your search

thanks Chris!  I go to a lot of events BUT, I don't want to wait until spring.  LOL  I've had one of Kevin's bows for several years and love it and am thinking about a LX but I just hate to wait.

I believe there are some in stock RER bows in the sponsors classifieds. If you do not see what you are looking for give Whip a PM he has a complete list. That is a good way to avoid the wait and $25 goes to the kids for St. Judes.

I have shot the acs and morrison. Both are very smooth and quiet. I preferred the grip on the morrison over the acs. I also preferred the sight window picture of the morrison but acs has a new longer riser with a longer sight window. Try to shoot both before placing down the big bucks.

If price is a factor I would recomend the Firefly of RER. Both are Quality bows and 1/2 the price of the Morrison or ACS and just as good IMHO

I shot that RER LXR - it's amazing in hand, points great and almost wills the arrows where you want them.  It's definately a great bow, built by great people.

Haven't had the joys of shooting the other bows mentioned, but someday I'm sure I will.

I own a Firefly that Jim Made for me that was cut 3/16" past center. It's 58" and 57@28. I used to own a 60 pounder but traded it as I really needed a lower weight bow. They are sweet shooters and well made bows. I highly recommend Jims bows.

I agree with Heydeerman and Nakohe on this one.  I have had many high end three piece bows - Horn's, Bob Lee, RER just to name a few.

However they have all gone and the only one I shoot now is my Firefly.  Jim Jones is an awesome bloke to deal with and his bows are second to none.  I have ordered two off him and they shoot better than all the high end bows I have ever owned - at about half the price.

Do youreself a favour and grab a Firefly before word gets out about Jim and you have to wait a year or like other top end bows.

One hour of life, crowded to the full with glorious action .... is worth whole years of those mean observances of paltry decorum, in which men steal through existence, like sluggish waters through a marsh, without either honor or observation

FIREFLY! Jim is one of the best to work with, and the bows are great shooters.

Get an idea of what your looking for and give him a call.

I have a 3 piece longbow Orion from Dryad. It would be hard to pick "the best", but I can assure you that you will not ever go wrong with any bow from Mike and Jason. The Orion shoots smooth is fast and quiet. The workmanship is excellent.
Slow down and enjoy life.  It's not only the scenery you
miss by going too fast - you also miss the sense of where
you are going and why.

Kohannah elite, Dryad Orion. I just got a black swan recurve but you can get longbow or hybrid limbs for it. The swan is smoking fast, quiet and shock free.
It's not the arrival, it's the journey.

The best I've owned is the Crow Creek Black Feather by Elmer Patton.  I would take one of them over the A&H ACS CX I owned.
