I am trying to help this friend find a trad. bow and some perferably some carbon arrows.
What do you fine members suggest. I have added 2 pics of him holding a yard stick to give you a starting reference. He is 6'6" and has long arms.

You need to do it with a bow. He's going to have a long draw, but he's going to lose some of that reach when he aligns with a bow. Arm lowered will be longer than when he has it up like he will when drawing. I just used a tape to stand and draw like he is, I had 36" to the same point and I draw 30".

we are thinking about footing some cx 350's if we can find an arrow with a shaft small enough to fit inside the shaft of a 350.

Little Chief

vermonster, what is the smallest amo length bow he might be able to use.  i have a 60" rio bravo but i am thinking that will be out of the question.
What do you think???

vermonster13

I'd go with a 64" recurve or a 68" longbow for most makers. A 62" Zipper would work for him or a 60" Swan. What do you have available and ask the bowyer what he thinks.

David already said it, but me too! He won't need that much arrow with a 65# bow :-)
Mine shortened up to 32" and I use the 350 Heritage full length with weight tubes and 220 gr Muzzy Phantoms. I think they would shoot thru an elephant :-)
Full length they're 32.75" long

nice bow what do you think the weight might be for his yet to be determined draw length??
also do you think that uncut cx350's will be long enough??
that is a nice bow

Shaun

Heck, I just tried that pose with a tape measure and pulled 35". I'm 5'10 and draw 27" with a bow. There are plenty of old 64 and 66" recurves out there used. He will most likely have a 29-30" draw with a bow and good form.

The 66" Brack that vermonster13 linked above would be a good bow but way too heavy for a new to trad shooter to learn decent form. Something in the high 40's low 50's at 28" would be better.

vermonster13

My guess is he'll draw 32" so like Shaun said find him an older 64"/66" one piece cheap, but he'd be better off with a 30-40@28" bow which would put him in the low 40s to low 50s at his likely draw. Lots of those out there and the lower weights usually go cheap.

i have the arms of a 6foot 8 guy but im only a lot shorter, i draw 29.5 with that pose i came up with 37.5 inches, dang i wish i could pull one that long. full lenght gold tips with the aluminum nock insert will be 34 inches long.  id say he could shoot your 60 incher as long as it is a recurve and not real heavy

He may have to order a long custom made bow.Nice shirt though.

Have him put that yard stick in the middle of his chest and hold it straight out with his hands straight and holding the stick. now look at the middle finger on the stick and see what he measure's. ( do not stretch ) I hope all this makes sense.

I had a guy order a bow after he checked his draw like the in pictures above. 35" draw, no way, so I had him check it with Ranger 3's method. Turns out his draw length was 29" checked correctly.
