Bear Heart

Just got a new to me Jerry Hill bow.  50# at my 28 inch draw 69" longbow.  Problem is that it shoots 30.5 inch 1916 with 125grain point like darts.  Would be great but that arrow is too light.  Any heavier equivalent suggestions.  Also what is the recomended brace height.  This is my first longbow so I have lots of questions.

JRY309

A 1916 has a spine of .623 and a 2016 has a spine of .531.So you might try a 2016 and maybe a heavier point and tune from there. With the stiffer spine a heavier point will weaken the dynamic spine but results in a heavier arrow.I would try 6&1/2" to 6&3/4" for a straight limbed bow.

JRY309 has the right idea. Just leave them too long at first with the point weight you need to get the right weight arrow and tune from there.

How crazy with point weight would I have to get to make 60-65 wood shafts work?  Dumb idea.  By the way it is dacron only.

With a commonly available 160 grain point, you could probably just leave the shafts a little long to begin with, shortening as necessary to get good flight. I have experimented with 70# shafts from my 52# Pronghorn, and get good flight at 30" with a 160 grain point.

Just play with it a little, you'll be surprised.

Bear:
60/64 spine shafts at 30.5" will shoot just fine with 125gr to 160 gr. points.
To answer your question about aluminums 2016 or 2018 will work at 30.5

Thanks, I have some 23/64 60-65 spine shafts in my garage along with some 160 field points. Time to start experimenting.
