I have a friend who is looking to buy a recurve, his first ever traditional bow.  He has shot my Morrison Shawnee and loves the grip, but likes the looks of Robertson's recurves. (He has also shot a Cheyenne as his brother has one, but prefers the Shawnee riser over the Cheyenne's). My question is, are the Robertson grips along the same lines as Morrison's, or are they larger?

I have never shot a Robertson but have never heard a bad word about them, so I assume that as far as smoothness of the draw goes they are probably comparable, so it is coming down to the grip.

The Morrison grips can be had in just about any way you like !!!!

Both bowyers will make a low, medium or high wrist.  Your friend might be reacting to the type of grip rather than the bow that it's on.  Would be best for your friend to try to get his hands on a few Robertson to see how they feel to him.  Good luck.

Robertson has a try before you buy plan. It costs about 50.00 total for shipping and insurance both ways, look on his site under stock bows give Dick a call and have him send ya one. Also check out the 68 inch Moose his son Yote shot in Alaska with a recurve. Oh ya. Flint

Flint he will probably try one of Dick's bows on that plan, like I told him he'd be better off trying one first, that way he'd find out right off which one he liked more.

Any custom bowyer should be able to make the grip you want, All you need to do is send him a grip that you want. You can make a lot of risers trying to make what someone is saying they want and not come close to the actual grip they want. Help your bowyer out and send him actually what you want.

I'd tell him to go with whatever bow shoots better for him, and not worry about the looks.  I love a pretty bow...but whitetails are more impressed with bows that I can shoot well.  I think Bob is right though.  I'm sure Dick or Yote will make the grip whatever way he wants it.

I have a Cheyenne and a Robertson Gryfalcon, to tell you the truth I cannot feel a difference.

I don't think the whitetails are all that impressed with your shooting, sorry. I don't think they like you at all, you keep killing their uncles and grandpas!!    

On the bow issue, I've owned both and like Bob's grips better as far as stock grips go. Regardless of grip my Morrisions are faster than than the Robertson I owned.

What I'm saying is, As far as I'm concerned the grip is 95% of the feel in a custom bow. If it don't feel right it will not work.... If you can not provide your bowyer with the grip you want you might as well buy any low, med or high grip offered by anybody..Once you have your grip( I'm sure Dick R or any custom bowyer should be able to match it, if he can't look for another bowyer) It comes down to limb design, what do you want??? Speed??? quiet??? soft feel???

Emilio, The difference in Bob's Risers are in the length.

Shawnee" A.14"  B.16" C.18"

Cheyenne" A.15 1/4"  B.17 1/4"  C.19 1/4"

ILF" A.16" B.18" C.20" and also includes the Mini 14"

I can't say as to weight, due to the fact of your wood choices. Some woods are heavier than others and more dense. But I would think they wouldn't vary more than a few ounces either way.

I am actually hunting with a 60@29 BW PSAII and I love the Asbell grip. I´m thinking on buying a new bow, and I don´t know if I prefer Morrison or ACS. I live in Spain and I can´t test these two bows here, so I am trying to decide via photos, forums, etc. and that´s not easy.....

Do you know if it is possible to order a Morrison Shawnee riser and recurve limbs?, I would like to order the bow at 60 lenght and long bow limbs charts recommend 62 at least for a 29 draw lenght.

Yes you can. Check out Bob's website, under "stock bow index" in there he has stock bows ready to ship, he has different risers and limb configurations. He has a index for the "Cheyenne" and the "Shawnee" as well as the ILF bows.

You can Email Bob, and ask about the length. I'm sure he would answer all your questions. But I would think with an "A" riser and "D" limbs to get your 60" wouldn't be a problem, But that's for Bob to say, no body knows his bows as well as he does.

Size A riser with D limbs work good for me at over 29 jnches and make a 60 inch recurve.The limbs you want are called Arapaho on the Shawnee riser.B riser and C size limbs will get you a 60 inch bow as well and give you a little more mass in the riser.Talk to Bob for best combination for you at your draw.

I also shoot B riser and C limbs currantly an the Cheyenne with no problem with a draw over 29.I like the D limbs alot as as well on this riser.
