Many years ago, I remember shooting longbow with a wedge grip (narrow peak where it fits into the palm.  I have tried about every kind of grip.  So when I ordered a Howard Hill Cheetah, I ask Craig to make it with a wedge grip.  Don't remember any tork using that type of grip.  Any of you guy or gals use that type now?

Nice Thanks, so only 30 days till you can show us the wedge grip and the rest of the bow  :)

I've tried it and like it alot. Plan on ordering a Hill with the wedge grip in the future.

I believe the longbows that Jerry Hill was making had a wedge grip, or pretty close to it.  I believe some older Hills also have it.  I've always found that grip a bit uncomfortable, but whatever works for you.  Good luck..

That grip was a lot more common on older Hills.  I've had several of them.  They don't work for me, because my hand is too small.  all the ones I had were very deep.  I modified a couple by removing the wedge and modifying them to standard straight grip.  I haven't tried that shape made for my size hand.  I'll be interested in a report.

I also like the wedge grip. My Sunset Hill and Miller have that style.

I seem to be more consistent with this style of grip and I do not torque the bow when I am shooting this style.

As long as it's straight i'm fine! However the wedge grip is uncomfortable for me at higher poundages for some reason. Probably just the way my hand is built. Under 55# though I like it and shoot it very well.

Lynn:
That is the grip I prefer, however its very difficult to get Craig too make it that way. I'm lucky that I live about two miles from them, so when ever I'm having a bow built, I go over during the shaping process so it get made the way I prefer it. Usually it will be shallower and wider than I want.
Dick: I too have a small hand. If you rotate your hand slightly so the peak of the grip, contacts the meaty part of the hand, you will find it no longer is uncomfortable.

Shot one that way once and didn't like it at the time.  Not sure if I'd feel differently about it with a different depth handle as mentioned above.  The one I tried was very deep in the handle and I have pretty big hands but I found it awfully uncomfortable.

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.

Ray

I owned a 70"Redman50#at one time that had that grip.If you you held the bow with your hand to the left of the center of the wedge it shot great. If you were to bring your palm over the top I would tork the bow terribly.
Good luck with her Lynn-we want pics when you get it.

I will try to post some pictures when I get the Cheetah with the wedge grip.  But I may need some help from someone to post them.
