By the way, the buck went about 300 yards on only one lung.  I gotta tell you I am getting to the point where I don't really like quartering away shots.  Seems like often you get one lung or you hit the broadside shoulder and do not get an exit wound.

Hey guys, I'll have some pics but they were taken on a film camera.  Need a few days to get them on the computer.  The coyotes tore him up so bad that even the cape will not be useable. I will have to get another cape.

Huntrdfk

How to stick with it Jon, good work. Too bad about the coyotes though.

Jon, I applaude you on your persistence and willingness to get down and dirty not to mention the patience you have shown in the recovery of that buck.  You have truly honored the spirit of that animal.  I have tremendous respect for you.  Well done sir!

I hate the coyotes got him before you did, but I'm glad you found him.  Congratulations!

Great news to read.
Congratulations for a job well done.

Congrats and my compliments on your honesty.

Some guys would have cut off the rack, considered it the same as a "found dead" deer and kept hunting for another buck.  Glad to hear you still tagged it.  Can you contact the game warden and maybe get a replacement tag since it sounds like you probably lost the meat?
Dave

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.

Good Job Jon, Way to stick it out! We have the same trouble with the yotes here in ny! one of my last kills i found the same night by using the yotes, we went back after dark and listened for them, when we heard where they feeding on the kill went in and was able to save some of the meat!

Hey guys.  I'm proud of my tracking on this one.  It was a really tough trail.  The area I was hunting hosts not only coyotes but wild dogs/coydogs as well.  If you don't get to the deer quicky, they will. I still have the piece of mind knowing I made a fatal shot and that I did recover him.....even though it was not as quickly as I would have liked!  He will still look good on the wall, and the memories will last forever.  I'm on to the does now!
