Heya guys just wanted to ask you guys something...

I had my girlfriend out back with me while I was shooting and she wanted to give it a go.

Boy I had been     for this day to come HAHAHA!

So anyway the only thing I had was a 40@28 old recurve (real old real short bow) I forget the name right now.  I got her flingin some arrows with the gear I had (everything is a large) but she was doing good.  Better shot than I am.  She was grouping at 10 yards no problem.  She is very competative and she said she would like to get into archery.

I didn't really have to coach her much she was a natural just picked it up and started shooting with good form I was very shocked!!!  But when i measured he draw I was suprised LOL.

She only draws 21" so its a very light bow...I'm curious what arrows would spine out properly for that?  I am going to see if she can chandle something a bit more like my 43@28 bear tigercat b/c she was doing fine with that bow and shot for over an hour with no problems.

True draw or AMO?

Tom,
     With a draw that short it looks like your girlfriend is shooting around 19-20#'s with a 40#@28" bow.  My youngest daughter (16) is shooting 1616 aluminum arrows in that weight rang with very good results. Hope this helps to give you a starting point.

Hey thanks bud!  Yea I had some 1816 lites laying around so thats what I had her shooting but I want to find a real nice light arrow for her to shoot.  She wont be hunting at all strictly target shooting, 3D, and stumping stuff.  Therefor I dont care about penetration I just want something flat so she can shoot and not have to lob the arrows.

kill im sorry...i have a measuring arrow that i had her draw back...it measured 21"

i know it will change in time see'ing as this was the first time she shot and it wont get to be 100% until she settles in on her form.

Maybe use arrows spined for the bow but left longer. For each inch over 28" you can subtract 5# of spine weight.     Pat

...also, once she develops her archery muscles her draw length and the ability to draw heavier weight will also develop.

I would go ahead and use 1716s cut to 26-28". Put some 4" feathers on there and they will fly right,and over a wide range of draw/growth factors.

At her draw length, 1616s cut to 22" would likely be right, but she may outgrow them very soon.

I agree with killy.  I have a short draw as well(23").  Stay away from the kid wood arrows that say they are up to 35#.  Have yet to find one that flew good for me even around the 28# I get from a 45#@28" bow.  They fly great for my little boy.
I have to buy a heavy bow at 28" or have one made for my draw.  It is hard to get good arrow flight with a short draw and a longer bow.  Getting one to a 3D target at 30 yards with a 21" draw wil be a bit hard if you are not pulling a lot of weight.  Mike from Maddog Archery makes a great midsize bow for a great $. If she gets more into it you should look into him.  The best arrow flight I have gotten yet.  My small game bow is a Maddog.  the Longbow is 51" long.  I pull around 35# on it and hit my mark at 30 yards no problem.  Mike is the man for a shot draw and at $150-$200 for a custom!  Good luck.

There are lots of carbon options also. Don't get her a "short" bow thinking it'll be better for a short draw, that is not the case at all, the bows that perform best as 28" or 30" perform best at any draw length you want to pick no matter it's length. Keep the draw weight low enough she has fun with it....O.L.
