Anyone have any opinions on the best string for a 45lb Hunter drawn to 30"?  AMO 62"

It's just got a plain black one on it at the moment and if there's something i can do to make it a better hunting weapon string wise that would be great.

Flemish twist strings are the best.Their quieter than the continous loop style.And the bow feels nicer in the hand when you shoot.You`ll have to experiment with the amount of strans you use.16 strans work the best for me in fast flight for my Super Kodiak.14 strans work best for me with dacron for my older bows.Get yourself a string board and make them yourself.It`s fun.

Thanks Harold, just had a look at how to make Flemish strings and i feel the need to have a go at that.

So has anyone any idea of best material and strands for my Hunter?

I'll have to disagree.  I've shot plenty of both, flemish and endless loop, and have never been able to tell a difference in noise or feel between the two string build types.  You'll find there's not a whole lot of speed difference between the two when properly made either.  A lot of traditional folks perfer the flemish over an endless loop though.  It can be made without the use of a large string jig and many seem to feel it's more traditional    :rolleyes:   than the endless loop.  Either type string will serve you well.  As far as string material goes, I'm partial to D75 or 8125.  The D75 has the softer feel of the two, to me.  There are several other good materials on the market to choose from though,  D97, 450 plus, 452, TS1.  D97 seems to be fairly popular.  I use a 12-14 strand endless loop of D75 on my hunter.  I can't remember the serving size.  I'll have to check.

If this is an older model,dacron would be the best and safest for the bow.If it is a newer model you can use D97,but you can always use dacron.For a dacron string I use 14 strands of dacron with .018 BCY No. 62 serving gives me a good nock fit.Making strings is not hard,I like to make strings for my bows so I'm not waiting on somebody else for my strings.

Keep in mind, too, that you don't really need a string jig for a Flemish string. Just measure the string you have, add 16" to that measurement, and drive two nails into a wall or your workbench at that length. That's all there is to it.

It's nice to not have to wait for someone else to make you one and mail it too you.  You'll find a 1/4# spool will make a  LOT of strings.

One more question... what server material would be best with 14 strands of D97?

 

The best string for your bow can be had from 3-Rivers.  Get yourself a 62" Tomahawk replacement string.  The top loop might be a tad small, just pull it down the limb and stretch it a bit.  Next, get some calf skin , again from 3-R, for the string grooves and some musk ox silencers.  You can throw in some brush buttons too, if you like.  Your bow will be fast, quiet and deadly.  Any questions, ask to speak to Shawn at 3-R.  He's a good guy and will answer any questions you may have.  Good Luck!!!    

Thanks Sgrogg.  I already ordered some D-97 and HALO serving, so i'll be giving that a go for the time being and see how i get on with that.
