Did a search but wondered if anyone had the link to the prussic knot tieing diagram? My stand is pretty high and I can't tie in untill I'm in my stand.

That first link is to the double fisherman's knot that you make your loop with, then click on the further link to the prussic knot. Make sure your main rope is a larger diameter than your prussic loop material. If you use high quality climbing rated rope, it will cost you about $30 for a good set up. You can make one with decent cheap rope for half that. One fall with a minor injury will cost hundreds, if you are lucky. One out of three tree stand hunters falls eventually.

As Hans and Frans of SNL used to say, "Hear me now and think about it later."

I just ordered a life line from hunters safety system that is 30" long with the prussic knot.

Razor,

I know the guy the builds the Safe Tree System.  He was motivated by a fall that left him with steel bars and screws in his legs.  I'm not sure he still 'markets' them actively but his price was reasonable.  Jim comes and demonstrates tree stand safety in our IBEP classes along with a hugh copy of the leg xray showing his 'hardware'.  That picture sure gets the kid's attention.

Howard - Jim has shut down for the season with only a few setups left.
He is not sure if he is going to do it next year - he makes next to nothing - motivation is to help spare others as you stated.

The idea of a single rope around the chest scares the breath out of me.
I'll stick with a full body harness.
