The few times I've been able to get out and hunt have been filled with sightings and close encounters with many deer, just no shot opportunities.

Saturday morning started with a great rut activity show at daylight and seeing several bucks chasing does around me.  I've been stillhunting and having blast but wasn't able to hunt that evening.

Sunday morning found me easing into the timber at daylight and had many deer moving around me, some within 20 feet.  I was looking for one of the big bucks I had seen Saturday, a 10 point with a very large body.  Around 8:30 I finally spotted him keeping company with a doe.  At one time I had him within 20 yards and drew back only to not shoot because of a slightly quartering toward me angle.  The doe led him off away from me.

At 10am hunger was working on me and I decided to leave and go get something to eat.  I had gone about 30 feet and by habit looked around behind me  .  There he was, about 40 yards out and me caught in the open and standing in the sunlight.      

I had stood stock-still for almost an hour during this and was looking forward to something to eat and a place to sit down.  I had started my still hunt 4 1/2 hours earlier and had traveled a total of 80 yards and completely lost count of the number of deer I saw.  What a morning.

That's deer hunting for ya!

Dennis, I can feel your pain.
  In the 2 weekends I've been able to hunt this year I have seen 3 deer...an alert doe at 10 yards and a minute later her two fawns walking away with her.
  Seeing deer makes the difference! Having deer close is almost it. Taking a deer with my own stuff.....I'll let you know when it happens. Until then, I'm still having fun!     pat

Wow!!!! nice looking tree, and center shot no less.

I've heard of shooting a tree to mark where you last saw the deer, but always thought you did it after shooting the deer. This is a whole new concept!!      

Look on the bright side, You saw more bucks in this one hunt than I've seen this year. And that arrow looks as if it's willing to fly again. Must be well built to take on a tree and live to tell about it!

It's ready to fly again Bawana.  It is one of my bamboo shafts with a Snuffer on it. I got a little wrench through the cutout and pryed it out without any damage.

That tree never had a chance.    :rolleyes:

I am going back in after them after work today.  It is convenient that I am hunting on company land (800+ acres) and can just basically step out the door and be hunting.    

This area was under more than 10' of water during July 1, 2007 and I saw more deer last Saturday morning that I saw all season last year.

Maybe I can kill one of those pesky monkeys.  Seems to be a bunch of them around.
