Decided to go to the woods and try to untangle the knots in my rope this morning. After dropping my daughter off at school I was slipping into the woods by eight. Since I hunt mainly on a WMA I knew I should get deep so I peeped and creeped a mile or so in until I reached two fields seperated by a narrow strip of woods. I got comfortable with the wind in my face and the sun at my back. I was watching a Redtail hawk searching for breakfast and enjoying the warming sun.
I had been set up about twenty minutes and was becoming engrossed watching a squirrel cutting hickory nuts when all of a sudden two does just appeared in front of me. I had expected them to my left but they hadn't read the memo. The both walked to within twenty yards when one of them decided something did not look right.

I still had the wind in my favor but she decided she wasn't going to stick around and left taking the other doe with her. Neither turned to offer me a shot but it was still a great encounter. I hunted another couple of hours but didn't see any other deer. When I decided to pack it in I still hunted back to the truck with the Redtail screaming over head telling me goodbye.

Best therapy to be had anywhere. Good hunting to all of you.    :)

I love the analogy of untangling the knots. Been there regularly myself lately. Amazing how that works, isn't it?

i also love the analogy, made me smile and think about all the times it felt like my head was in a viuce and getting cranked! the woods have the same effect on me. the great outdoors is my life battery recharger, i need to get pluged in often!

the way the "market" and the world is headed these days the woods is the only place I have that feels comfortable. Without it I would be a completely different person.

I am with you Benha,I often make the remark that "Shooting my bow keeps me away from the counselors."

Its amazing how relaxing it is just to sit and watch the squirrels play in the woods. Alot of people dont know what they are missing..

Just as well they don't know what they are missing.....otherwise they would be in the woods complaining about the markets and we wouldn't get any peace and quiet...tee hee

An old song by the Eagles...Last Resort....give it a listen again....always makes sense to me

Benha,

You've captured it.

(Funny how the deer here never read the memo either.)

Sometimes, it`s ALMOST to the point where if you actually killed a deer, it would take something away from it.

Why do they call it common sense when it is so rare?

Quote to untangle the knots in my rope
Perfect description and something I am very much in need of.

The only thing that could have made it better was if my daughter could have been there. It was the type of day that someone who doesn't understand why I do what I do would have to experience. I could never fully explain the feeling.
