i shoot a 58lb shrew and i just got some gt 7595s and had to put 400 grains upfront for tuning, the total arow weight is 796 and speed in the 153 to 156 range the ke is 44 i was shooting 600 grains at 180 and the ke was 39 what are good #s for bows and arows in this range.

Forget about KE in calculating trad setups. Momentum, not KE, predicts penetration, which Ashby has shown without doubt. While speed is the primary ingredient in KE, weight is most important to momentum. Both your setups sound very good. For deer I'd go with the 600/180 combo for flatter trajectory, etc. Plenty of horsepower there. For elk and moose the heavier arrow is better, assuming you can shoot accurately to 20 yards. dave (55# Shrew Classic Hunter)

But don't take my word for it. Go to the Ashby page here and check out the graphs and comments for the 2005 studies, Part V. Again, both your setups are really good. d

155fps shoots flat enough for 30 yards and i wouldnt shoot past that regardless of trajectory.  i was just wondering what kind of #s other shrew shooters were getting with thier setups.

I shoot 585g from my SS Deluxe, 53 @ 29.5". Got a new 56" Classic Hunter at the beginning of deer season, havent got a hunting arrow worked up for it yet, prolly shoot for between 11-12 gpp, that gives me the speed/thump combo I like. Dont have a chrono, I try not to get too caught up in the numbers game.

Currently shooting something like 825g out of my 59@32 Classic Hunter, thoug a recently tried 875g was really going nicely...

that long draw lenght must help a good bit i draw 30, after some more shooting i put another 20 up front and the flight couldnt be better.

BobW

can't help it.  35" of arrow (douglas fir with a walnut Reparrow footing)) just happens to weigh that much.....
