We had a bad ice storm in Jan. so there r a lot of brush piles.I use natural blinds and have had deer all over me this year. Before, I have always hunted out of trees.lack of confidence on the ground I suppose. Now that I'm on the ground it has been great.   :archer:
THAT PUTS YOU IN ONE POSSIBLY TWO CATEGORIES,SUCKS TO BE YOU AND BETTER YOU THAN ME.    JOKINGLY OF COURSE

Wary Buck

Two solid bucks and four adult does thus far this season, all from trees although I've passed up several from ground blinds and made some cool stalks this year that ended with me passing the shot.  One of the coolest was when I rattled, grunted, and shook a sapling to draw a P&Y caliber buck to within 20 yards while I was kneeling in cover.  Exciting.

Approximate tree stand heights for me, though, might be a little surprising to some:  bucks at 8' and 8', and does at 10', 10', 12', and one from my tallest stand at about 14 or 15'.

And one of my best hunts this year I passed up 4 or 5 bucks from a stand about 6 1/2' up in a tiny cedar, with some of those deer coming as close as 2 yards to the base of my tree.  Great hunt.

This survey didn't allow me to vote more than once, so the end results may not truly reflect the number of deer taken ground v. tree for the hunters here as I would guess many shoot more than one deer.

All I hear is "you have a much better chance of shooting a deer from a tree". Last season, I had my son on a ladder stand across the field from me. The deer walked right by me out of my range and looked right up at my son in the stand. While there is much more to look at from a tree, I feel that I am much more in nature in my blind.
I have wildlife all around me and birds and squirrels on top of me. Even if I don't see a deer, I feel like I had a great experience.

Man, can't believe the number of ground hunters - running more than 50%...must not have the same high strung deer we do in Georgia!

GingivitisKahn

SOS - it's easier from the ground.  We just hunker down below their eyeline and shoot the deer that are stumbling around the woods looking up in the trees.  :-D
