I'm curious what effects it could have on an all wood Trad Recurve bow if you shot an arrow weight of less than 10gr per pound in it. Something like around 8gr per pound. If anyone has knowledge on this please share with me.

Thx, Donald

Should be just fine.  The standard is 8 to 10 grains per pound so you are right on the low end of normal.

I've known guys to go with less and have no problems other than some extra noise.

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.

On all wood bows I like heavier better than lighter. I really hate pulling splinters out of my hide.

All Natural bows will hold up to 8 gpp if built well.  They usually do better at around 10.  Why do you want to go that light?

Well if it's an all wood recurve ? I'am not sure. But if it has fiberglass backing on both sides. Some glass backed recurves will take down to 6 grain per pound of draw weight with no problems. But as Dave mentioned lots more noise...bd

Doing the "flight" stuff, I've seen very few wood bows have any problem at 4-5gr/lb. That's only with a handfull of shots however, not a few thousand.....O.L.

I shoot about 8 grains per pound out of most of my selfbows.  I generally shoot heavier for hunting but not always.
