after reading about drr324's story about almost spending the night in the woods, because he forgot his daypack. it got me thinkin about it and i was wondering if any of you have ever "had" to spend the night in the woods for reasons unforseen. and what did you do about you situation?
a friend of mine shot a "phenomenal" buck a few years back and spent the entire night in the woods tracking him. he did stop and build a fire to dry himself by, but then continued tracking.
i believe he spent somthing like 18 or 19 hours straight in the woods following that deer, and he never did find it.

10 years ago I had to spend the night in a swamp, wasnt fun. got turned around tracking a hog that was gut shot. Ended up about 5 miles away from my camp. but it wasnt till morning that I got my bearings back and was able to find my way out. Spent the night next to an old oak tree, just me and my hog  :)

Those Tyvek painters suits make a very light to carry but effective overnighter.  Just like goretex in properties.  I have an XL to fit over everything I have on-except pack and bow.  Bugs and water-off you, retains some heat.  weighs next to nothing-cheap insurance.
Cast a long shadow-you may provide shade to someone who needs it.  Semper Fi

Roadkill, that's a good suggestion on the Tyvek.

I spent all night in the woods out near Abilene, ended up 7 miles from camp as the crow flies. I finally found someone on a road about 5:30 in the morning, I started tracking that hog @ 9:00pm. Bought a GPS the next week.
