Ok guys. There are obiously a lot of guys on here that shoot Wensel Woodsmen. I know some just sharpen them and hunt and some modify or pyramid the tip...What do you do? Please explain why?

WidowEater

First off it is so easy to modify you almost owe it to yourself to do it because of that.  Second the needle point is so weak you can bend it just by letting it drop onto the point from 1/2 an inch above a piece of wood.  What is is going to do if it hits a bone in an animal.  Penetration is going to suffer.
Silence over speed.  Heavier arrows never hurt.

McDave

I have to admit that I went with the crowd and made a pyramid on the point.  Only....if that's such a great improvement, why didn't Wensel do it?

It's another step in the manufacturing process ...and they know how much we like fine tuning(read tinkering) with all our stuff! d;^)   Pat

I vote to pyramid it.   Its just such an easy step why risk it.

Actually the Wensels did do it after the fact on the ones they used.  I don't know if it's there now but the instructions were on their website.

I just sharpen and shoot!!
Never had a problem with penetration. However, all I have shot with them has been whitetails. Although one of the bucks I shot was over 200lbs. He was quartering away and the arrow broke the last rib going in and ended up buried in the armpit on the opposite leg. I was shooting a 510gr. arrow out of a 58# longbow
