I carry darn near everything I have read on survival with me, whistle- fire starter-waterproof matches-iodine pills-rope the list goes on and on as you can find anywhere on this site. God forbid you would have to use it for any extreme life reason, but do you use it ever? Why?

It's there if you need it. When you don't carry it, then you'll need it.

I used to carry a ton of stuff with me whenever I headed out.  I have now streamlined my "stuff"   I carry a knife, some light rope, my license, a compass and a flashlight.  If the bugs are bad I throw in a Thermocell.

Anything else I need is in my truck or cabin.   I don't do any "hike in" type hunting so I rarely need any more.

Guess it depends on your hunt.  Hunting deer in the bottoms and sloughs around here I carry a compass, light, lighter, extra tab, and a small roll of electrical tape. (for band-aids or whatever).  That's about it.  I think it's really easy to get way overloaded on what we need to have and what we think we need to have.  Just my opinion though.

I usually dont take much with me other than some rope, water ,wetwipes and knife for the local hunts and one dayers. Diffrent story on the multiday hunts in the mountains.

The one thing I always have is an emergency blanket.  I use it all the time and I have never used it for survival.  Knife, compass, canteen/cup with 50 feet of back braided parachute cord for sling, flint and steel, and char cloth.

Depends on the situation, I guess. Some places I leave my pack in the truck. Most places I carry probably too much. Elk hunting is usually a full pack.

Bought a new day pack from Bruzer Gear. It's pretty neat and no noise at all.

Pointer

About the same as the other fellas....I generally hunt alone so I take some basic survival stuff with me in case I have a mishap of some sort and can't walk out the same day. I started with a regular day pack and then went to a large fanny pack (shoulder strap model) and now to a smaller one with removeable shoulder straps. I guess it all weighs 12-15 pounds once I tie my hunting stool to the bottom.

It's not heavy and it's much better to have the stuff and not need it than to need it and not have it.

gwhunter

If you can boil water, you don't need iodine.  I guess, on my part I always carry too much.
