I've tried out every kind of head gear I can find at my local Bass Pro and a bunch of other stores and don't like any of them. I've always been one of those guys who doesn't like to wear any kind of hat unless my brain starts to freeze from the cold.
I'm just wondering your thoughts on saying the heck with the head gear. Throw some camo paint on the white face and let the hair blow in the breeze.

doo-rag (and the TGstore has 'em).

Killdeer

This is my favorite. It's wool.

In warm weather I will wear a do-rag. In middlin' weather, or when it is sunny, the ol' fedora gets the nod. I don't like a lot of hat either, but a brim is nice on a sunny day, and hair gleams and glistens, so a covering is good. Mine is long, so if I don't braid it and cover it, it will be a wild birdsnest after a couple of hours in the woods...plus full of twigs and stuff.

This one is a "Radar" hat from the surplus store. I turned it around backwards to shoot.

I feel the same about hats.I some times use a very thin camo net just on my face for bobcat or coyote

I'm the opposite; feel darn near nekkid without a hat.  And I like a big brim; my favorite is a Stetson Prairie...soft wool blend with a 3 1/4" brim that's soft enough not to interfere with my bowstring.  Opening day I had a little six point at 12 yards with both of us on the ground; I was just peeking out from under the brim...never spotted me.....and no face paint or mask.  One thing to consider is that a large proportion of heat loss is through your head if uncovered; plus a fair degree of scent dispersion.

I thought about the Fedora for sale at Bass Pro. Does anyone know how well it bends out of the way of the string. I don't want to pay $35 dollars for a useless hunting hat. The Fedora and the knit cap are the only ones I can stand. Ball caps are the worst for me.

In the cold I use the wool stocking hat, in the middlin' or for stalking its brown Stormy Kromer, and in the summer its the parachute silk doo rag.
Silence over speed.  Heavier arrows never hurt.

As much as I've tried, I cannot wear a brimmed hat when I shoot a traditional bow because the bowstring always hits the brim of the hat. For cold weather I finally opted for a Filson stocking cap made of Merino wool.

hit or miss

I like a fleece stocking hat, it doesn't make my head itch like a regular one.

I definately want a brim though to shade my face.  I also like to keep the heat in, not enough insulation on top to help anymore.

Anyone know if they still make the short-brimmed Stormy Kromer? I don't see it on the website.

How about a Jones cap.  I have had 2 in 30+ yrs of hunting and can not find them any more.  Anyone see them somewhere?

I like to go with a stocking cap if the weather allows. If it's too warm the Tradgang do-rag works great.
