Aw come on Barry - they are so cute when they walk up and sniff you - how can you not give them credit for that?

That buck has a hole in his left antler.  I'm guessing the real story is that Gene shot him in the antler, and then Barry finished him off with a shot to the vitals.  That is a real beauty Gene, good job and thanks for keeping the fire lit for the rest of us.
By the way, I think I will draw an iowa tag next season.  You are looking thinner from the last time I saw you in Texas.  Maybe next season you can help me drag one out like that.....it will help with the last few pounds you are trying to shed!  Again, absolute beauty of a buck. I like the bladed brow tines.

Ybuck

A beautiful buck Sir. Congratulations!

WOW very nice buck..There's never any hole's in Gene's. How do you do that. No blood anywhere. Congrats..

JC

Man, I've got to make it to their bootcamp someday....  :readit:

Congratulations Gene, that's a serious buck right there. I'm not sure I could even hit one that big through all the knee-knocking and shakin-fever going on in my stand.

Now, my question is "Where's Barry's big deer?"     :saywhat:

Someone asked me how I got a pass through shooting an arrow fletched at both ends. Check the photo. Go figure. Actually both Barry and I have been sick with chest colds. I have almost three quarts of loogies saved up in the freezer for Biggie. On antibiotics and high octane cough syrup that I'm not supposed to drink when up a tree. I sat on the bench the entire first week of November for the first time in my life. I got great trail camera pix of this buck on the scrape three days before I killed him. Got the shot on film too although the impact was not pretty. Hard to film oneself and gitter done too. I had clean clothes on and showered before going out but honestly, I thought the menthol cough drop would void my efforts. Nothing smelled me even downwind. Very lucky. I passed up another big 4x4 a few minutes before I shot this one. Biggie wouldn't have had the self control.... :>)

Great Buck! Gene, he doesn't look very old. Did you age him? I'm not diminishing him in any way, just curious.

I pulled the teeth to send in to a lab. My guess is 4 1/2 but he was too good to pass. My plan is to carry the video camera until late season. Barry's camcorder went on the fritz and he missed some great footage this week. I'm outta here....

Shame on you Gene...taking a little spike fawn like that   "[dntthnk]"

All kidding aside, congrats. We don't see very many like that up here in the north country. My problem is I see a big doe and my mouth starts to water. The next thing I know, an arrow appears in her vitals. Oh, well, those big antlers are kind of crunchy anyway.   ;)

My eldest son shakes his head and says, "Dad the doe killer." Then he says make sure you bring me some deer sticks...kids!

Looking forward to seeing the video, Gene! Thanks for the post.
