Anyway, what I am wanting to know is how do I stop my Zephyr Sasquatch broadheads from Whistling?

I really like these heads, they seem really deadly, and are easy to get really sharp. But, they whistle really bad all the way to the target and I am afraid that will scare the deer away before the arrow gets there. I've tried all three heads I have, on both wood and carbon with screw-inserts, even tried filling the excessive slots for bleeder blades with glue, and still get a whistle.

I know I've seen a lot of people here using and praising these heads, and never seen anyone mention them whistling, so am I just doing something wrong or do you all just ignore it?

Mine don't whistle at all.

Are they 4 bladers with the bleeders out?  If so, that will cause a whistle.

Are they spinning true?  Sometimes vented heads will whistle if they aren't mounted true.

I've heard of folks putting a dab of vaseline on the back inside vent edges to stop whislting on snuffers, so I suppose that would work.  You could also take a small file and round off those sharp edges of the back vents as well....but make sure they are mounted straight and spin true.

What glue did you use I would try epoxy. I bet others here will have alot better ideas than I. good luck with it, I do not want them making any noise...

Could you round the back edges of the vents with a chainsaw file or the side of a normal file?  Have no clue if it would work but if it does help I bet it doesn't take more than a few licks with a file make a difference.


One of those things that's worth a try.

Yeah they are 4 blades, but with the bleeders in. There is still a gap of empty "slot" though and that is what I was talking about filling up with glue, which didn't help. I have checked them for alignment and they seem pretty true to me and they fly perfect also.

I have glued them on with Ferl-Tite and superglued the bleeders in place. I really don't see how the glue would affect the noise they make in flight though.

I really don't understand the theory behind Vaseline or the filing thing, but I'll give filing the back inside edge a try and see if that helps. The Vaseline seems too "temporary" for something going in and out of my quiver multiple times on each hunt.

The back edges can cut air and make them whistle.  That's why folks use Vaseline or file the edges a bit.

Let us know if the filing works.

Sorry - I must be on the wrong thread. I seen to whistling Sasquatch at the Adirondack Hunt. AKA - BS and Aram.

I have had trouble with keeping the bleeder blades in my practice head.  I have super glued it but I still have trouble with them coming out.  Any suggestions?

Just leave them out of your practice heads....they aren't going to change your point of impact whether they are in there or not.

I never had a whistle with mine, bleeders in or out..  other than duribility issues I loved them..(a very quick killin head.)  but that was enough to go back to zwickies.

Dave....ye're right,...nothing wrong with Zwickeys!  Been killing deer and hogs with them for 25 years or so, and I got one Delta that's killed 14 deer and one TX hog.

I'm looking at these (Zephyrs) broadheads pretty hard. What durability issues where there?  Bent ferrules, rolled tips, chipped edges, ferrule/blade separation?

TTT I have looked at the Sasquatch as well but am curious about durability too.

Ok, I just wanted to report back that I beveled the back inside edge of the vents and that worked, no more whistling. Thanks for the help.

Now that its been mentioned, I am curious about the durability thing too. They seem pretty solid and durable to me, but I've shot them into a foam target. I can say that they are the easiest to sharpen and hold that sharp edge the best of any other broadhead I have tried (which is only 4 or 5 so far).

The only one I ever had bend was wedged between the rib and shoulder blade of a bison that ran around with it in there for 30 minutes before I got him on the ground.   Never had any other damage to one from an animal ranging from boars & bear deer, Zebra, or Kudu.

I posted in the other sasquatch thread more detail, but the main blades were seperating from the feurrel (sp) I was told I may be getting them to hot mounting, so I used epoxy and still had it happen. I used them for a year, and had maybe 5 come apart. maybe a bad batch, I dunno, but enough to quit usin them.
