Anyone play with active scrapes (scent-wise)  Just got some trail cam pics of a pretty nice 8pointer(2.5 y.o.). I never really messed with scent in scrapes too much, I was just wondering what you guys use if you do.  Since he seems pretty regular, I may just let him do what he does naturally and hope we meet.  Hopefully I'll be able to post a pic or two of him tomorrow.

I used to mess around with scents, with not very good results.. That I could tell,,,.

I've had great results making "mock" rubs.. These have worked for me for years.

I'm a firm believer in keeping it natural. If he's in your area right now then thats his core area. Unlike the rut when a buck will travel several miles. Stand placement is key. Never really had much luck(what little I have had I can't prove)with using scents as a deer attractant.

Well chuck, since our urine is primarily the same, I figure mine will be as good as yours.  Recycled Beer it'll be...

Not yet, I wasted yet another supply down the toilet.  I'll call you mid week, I need to take you over and have a walk around with you, just too many people to place on my own.  I know friday is bad but can you maybe get out early in the am??

The main thing that I've used scent in a scrape for is to get a deer's interest. I've used doe, doe estrous and buck urine and I've used buck urine plus tarsel as well.

My best luck in using scent at scrapes has been when I was using fresh urine from local deer that I had taken that year. Twice I have used this trick to bring in 8 pointer's for close shots.

I believe that scent from local deer tends to calm deer, while strange scent tends to create more aggression. The key is to know what you are looking for. A dominant buck may respond well to the strange urine/tarsel trick. But I believe that the same setup may intimidate subordinate bucks.

man it is really early for scrapes, very suprised. sometimes early like this they make them as the urge hits but i doubt it will be his primary scape/area yet. got to love those trail cam's bro! Woodchucker is DEFINITLY right, take a leak. i didn't believe it untill a guy that i greatly respect his hunting knowledge told me the same things a few years ago and it works.

That deer is tearing up the habitat on your place. Soil erosion is a big problem. You'd better kill him.

Nice deer Nathan, I'm in agreement with Biggie, your only other option will be to erect a sediment fence around the entire area this will keep the fish kill off to a minimum in any neighboring streams, but this can become expensive. It will be much cheaper just to kill him and his brother to if you have the tags

Chuck - I think that you need to get over there and make a scrape right next to that one so that this guy knows who the "Dominate Buck" Is!

I'm with you guys...This aggression will not stand!!!  I don't think I could ever look any of my neighbors in the face again if I didn't step up and end this plague of terror which has enveloped my whole neighborhood.  In difficult times, somebody always has to step up and do the dirty work, I guess this time I've drawn the short straw.   :archer:
