Has anyone used or sat in one of these, they just look really comfortable. I plan on hunting with my shrew and I also pistol hunt some every now and then. How much does the sit bar get in the way when shooting? Thanks
Thomas

I have used my summit for a few years now and it is by far the most comfortable stand I have ever sat in. Yes the bar does get in the way but you just have to do a little leaning sometimes, what I do is keep my safety rope as high up as I can reach so when I sit down it is tight and then when I stand up to shoot I can lean out and then I can feel the tension, Just a sense of security for me. If you are shooting your pistol out of it the bar will come in very handy to make a nice solid rest...

I really do like the ideal of the shooting bar. I really enjoy hunting with my T/C Contender every now and then but Traditional archery takes first priority. can you shoot sitting down out of the viper if you have too

You can shoot sitting out of the Viper if you can cant horizontal. I recommend a net seat like the one I have on my Viper listed in the classifieds. It allows you to set the seat higher and the bar lower and is as comfy as the original seat. I got it on the bay for $20 and is well worth it.

If you plan on bowhunting and shooting sitting you better not get one with a bar.  No Doubt it gets in the way! The older Cobra or Open Shot is the way to go with a bow in mind...

I've hunted out of my Cobra for several years. They are very comfortable and stable on the tree. They aren't as easy to climb with as Viper.

If Your worried about the bar You can use one of stands BigRon mentioned and use a shooting stick for support for Your hand cannon.

The bar is not the worry or problem in my humble opinion. The real problem is if the deer comes up behind you !!! Try shooting a close shot right behind you <10yds. It cost me the biggest buck of my life and my son missed his first trad deer too. His lower limb hit the upright on the seat during the recoil of his lower longbow limb. On my buck I could not even get close to full draw. Could not fully extend my bow arm without the bow hitting the upright. It was all over in about 2-3 seconds, just had no shot and he moved on.

I hunt out of my Viper all seasson and during bow season I simply put the upper part of my Viper a little closer to the platform which gives more clearance. Makes sitting a little less comfy and your knees are a little higher than normal. Takes a little more effort to go from sitting to standing but can be done.

If a deer comes from behind and it is the only shot you have then try stepping as far away from the tree as possible. If my son would have simply took one step away from the tree and toward the front of the platform we would have had backstraps, no doubt. His deer was about 16yds away. Hope this helps someone else not blow or miss a opportunity. I love my Viper, other than that one issue.

I think you guys are using the summit viper bar the wrong way., it worried me  too but I have lost more shots with the open shot seat bars getting in my way for left and right shots. My friend WV Mountsineer told me hoe to use the bar. Place the bar at about waist height. Make sure to cinch the upper potion to the tree. I even cinch the upper and lower portions together with strapping and buckles to make them both rock solid . Then you can simply lean on the bar with you bow over the bar and shoot in all directions. I feel safe in it as well. And when sitting I can rest my arms on the bar. I love it.

agree with jax. lean on the bar, be strapped in w/safety harness, and you can pivot really well.

This year I have been using 2 straps from '3rd hand' that connect the upper and lower sections. They transmit the weight from the lower onto the upper when you stand up. I feel it's more solid than just strapping the upper to the tree and it's definitely quieter when you go to stand.

My summit is the only stand I've ever fallen asleep in, and that's saying something.

I updated to the net seat on my Viper and also started doing what jax said above too.... set it higher and strap it to the tree to secure the top half and lean out over it for FULL clearance. I love this site.... learning and helping others all the time !!!

Thanx jax....  :clapper:
