String and serving question

I've been using a string that I bought that is made with excel and has crown .026 serving. I like the string but the serving must be flattening as my nocks are becoming loose on the string. The excel string is 18 strand and I typically use speed nocks. Will a different serving material be better? This hasn't lasted long at all. Thanks for any advice.

Whump Sez: All serving material will compress some but mono seems to give fewer problems than any of the twisted material. I rarely wear out a  mono serving . It is a bit slick to tie off but if you use the tie off knot demonstrated in the Boyers Bible it will stay tight and will give you excellent service. If you are going to stay with the twisted type serving material then use a little string wax right in your nock area  before you start shooting and this will help to cut down on wear.  Hunt Safe

Yep, all wear and compress, they aren't supposed to be tight on the string anyway, causes all kinds of tuning problems....O.L.

I don't have the bowyers bible.
Where can I get it from?
But more urgently, what knot do they suggest to use? I'm hunting in 2 days and needs me a thicker serving!

SHOOTO8S

Tom, dental floss applied to the nock area of your current string will correct the nock fit.

Like O.L. mentioned, if nocks are tight enough to hear a snapon....their too tight!

If needed I can take some pics of how to serve the dental floss ?

I did serve with dental floss and it worked well but I thought I'd try some actual serving material to see what it's like.
I've got one side of the serving all tight but the other side is a bit of a concern. Maybe just a generic securing knot.

Whump sez; check the sponsors on this site first and support them--if they do not have it 3 rivers archery does. If you do not want to buy the entire set "volume 2" has all the string making info you will need and you can purchase the other volumes later. Hunt safe.   :archer:

REALLY! I put my serving on fairly tight with a bunch of wax on the string. What sort of problems will this cause. I'm all for doing what it takes to increase accuracy.

Dozer,

They mean the nock should not fit tight on the serving.....   They are not saying the serving should not be tight.
