Does anybody have any suggestions for cresting paint, other than "Bohning Paint" that has to be ordered and shipped. Are there any types of paints at Wal=Mart or Hobby shops that I can pick up to use. The paint will be used on both carbon and wood shafts.

Also what do i cover the newly painted crest with to keep it from getting scratched?

Testors model paints

I use Testors then put the arrow back into the crester and put 2 coats of waterbased poly over the crest.

I guess it works ok on Carbon Arrows? Meaining it doesn't thin out?

Testors enamel is about the best there is, and a ton of colors too, but as Jack says, you will need to put a coat or two of poly over them to protect them, or keep them from running if you put a final coat of "oil-based" finish on your arrow before fletching.

P.S. - I've never tried cresting carbon shafts.

I use acrylic craft paints. You can get them at Walmart or any number of craft stores. They come in a ton of colors (including a great selection of metallics), are inexpensive, and clean up with water.
I put them under gasket lacquer but you can also topcoat with polyurethane.

Automotive touch-up paint. I get it a Wally-World.  Alot of great colors.

For the do-it yourself at home.  Use any water based acrylic then dip a few times in Watco semi-gloss lacquer.  Use Duco glue, this will work on all types of arrows.

Krylon crafting lacquers. They come in a small jar and work great. You can get nice fine lines just like using a cresting lacquer. Try hardware stores, crafting supply houses etc. I get mine from lil ol local hardware store in downtown Darby.

Testors Paints. I also like the Paint Pens, they make for easier cleanup
