How to remove tape/glue residue from a bow?

I recently got a nice 70-71 era Bear Kodiak Hunter in deal. The bow was covered with tape. It had duct tape on the white overlays in the riser, electrical tape to hold the quiver in place. Basically, under all the tape residue, the bow is mint! And I mean at least a 9 out of 10 maybe a solid 10. What didn't have tape on it, looks to be brand new.

I'd like to clean it up but I'm not sure of the best way to remove all the glue/tape residue without harming the bow.

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance. Rob

I've used rubbing alcohol with great results. Alot of work but worth it for a "10" bow.

Do a search under TG username "Bbassi".  He has had some excellent success with a furnature product - can't remember what it was.  He has saved a few Bears, one in particular that had a wonderful "Sharpie" camo pattern done to it.

Get ahold of some 3M Adhesive Remover (#6041) and you'll throw all that other stuff away. We've found that it cleans and shines plexiglass pretty well too. You can get it at shop3m.com The great thing about it, is that it doesn't seem to damage anything. 16 bucks/can, but worth it.

I have rescued more than a few taped up Bears..........be caterful of what you use and how aggressive you get. I would only work with two products. The 3M Adhesive remover already mentioned, and Bowdoc's wax and cleaner.
Goo gone works too; but not as well as the 3M product. And the Bowdoc stuff? Well it is just the best hands down.

Had the same problem when I bought my bow. WD-40 took care of my problem quick and easy.

I second the 3M. Works great doesn't damage anything. We use it in our shop. (nut)
