Well yesterday was opening day deer so on the road we went up at 1am on the road by 2am at the farm by 430am in the woods by 5am legal light 607am!  I have decided to hunt from the ground this season.

First light here comes 4 deer snuck right up on me within 20 yards.  They are working left to right coming in to 15 yards.  3 steps before the lead doe would have come into my lane wind shifted and they spooked...i bleated and they came running back but at 30 yards the small 6pt circled down wind and it was over!

Had a few other run ins including a stalk on a big doe which i got to 25 yards but her vitals were covered then she spooked!   Man what a rush this day has been thus far!

Broke for lunch and nap then back in the woods we went.  Sitting on a blowdown roughly 100 yards from my buddy pat a big yote comes charging in at me...came in to view at about 30 yards and he had his head down on my coon urin trail.  I got ready and he just got to close...6 paces away and charging my way got my skin crawlin and a little to close for my comfort.  He got a stinger through both lungs at 6 paces and he went a howling!

Myself and pat tracked him for ever and just couldn't find him...we think he crossed the stream and died in the swamp.  Woulda made one heck of a quiver and a nice euro mount.

All in all a GREAT day for me (sorry ya didn't see anything pat) had a great stalk ground hunt and a kill to help the farmers out wit their livestock by taking a predator out.

But most important it was the first opening day in 10 years that I got to hunt with my father and bow!  In 10 years ive only bow hunted with him 4 times so it made is super special and to boot he saw alot of deer as well made it worth wild!  But the icing on the cake is my father got the old hunting bug again and is already askign when we are going out again!!

Sorry no pick of the yote but I got a bent 2016 to show for it.

Lots of fun.  Would have been nice to see some deer, but caught the live show on the coyote and that was cool.  Dead tired working another 24hr shift now.  Lots of season left.

Fun to be out there...Great story. I've always said "if this was easy it would not be any fun"..

Again, Good ob. Look forward to that Yote hunting with you as well as some deer hunting.
I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.
