I arrowed a deer this morning at 35+ yards and quartering away.  I was slightly above the animal so the shaft entered high on the left lung then just below center on the right lung.  The broadhead passed through but the arrow hung up on the 5 1/2" banana feathers so the deer bounded away with orange fletchings sticking out of his upper chest.
I don't know about the rest of you, but for me, at my skill level, that is a long shot. I was feeling really good, a little cocky, so I let'r fly.  Normally I won't shoot at game past 30 and would much prefer -20.
If your curious I was shooting a 50# Red Wing Hunter, a cedar shaft spined at about 68#s with a 160 grain Stos head.

Pics later Dave. All I had w/me was a cheap throw-away film camera.  Back-strap maybe if someone else will cook it, I'm pooped!

Sometimes when your feelin` "really good", "a little cocky", it`s because your INSTINCTS are working. A subtle hint that you CAN do what you must.

Ted Nugent even mentions it is the song "Fred Bear". "I had that feeling, comin over me again...
just like it happened so many times before".

Feels good doesn`t it!

Congrats.

About the only pic I can offer immediately is of the bloody arrow. All I had with me at the kill site is a throw-away film camera that I carry in my fanny pack and it takes a week or so to get the pics back from development.
The buck was standing on the opposite side of a large arroya.  I've hunted the area before and knew the deer,(and sometimes elk), liked to graze in the deep grass at the bottom of the arroya.  I simply sat motionless at the top and waited for the deer to move in.  Not much of a story and nothing special about the deer, just a common young buck.  :campfire:    :archer:
