Well the long wait is over.  We'll be leaving this afternoon headed to NW Colorado to chase Elk in the crisp fall air.  Three Tradgang members and one wheelie guy (maybe we can convert him also).  7 day spike camp about 4 miles from the road, non guided, self sufficient except for one horse, public ground.  I wouldn't have it any other way.  Myself, PowDuck, and LBR all shooting longbows.  Look forward to getting away from the heat and humidity for a few days and enjoying all of God's beauty of the Rockies.  Good luck to all that are heading out this week.

Good luck Bob and be safe! I hunted the Gunnison area around Crested Butte for several years... Beautiful country!!

Scattershot, we'll be in the Routt Nat. Forest NW of Craig.  I've hunted this area 3 times before so at least we're not going in blind.  Leaving in a couple of hours.  Thanks for the good wishes from all.         BOB

Heading out Tuesday night for 12 days near Ft Collins.  I'm already losing sleep from anticipation.  You guys drive/hunt careful.  Want to see some photos when you get back.

Nice country up that way... Hunting elk there is simple, just find a set of elk tracks and follow them until you see the elk standing in them, then shoot. Nothing to it!

Good hunting!  I too am headed to Colorado as soon as I can get my truck packed and fueled.  The "honey do" list was so long that I am a day late in leaving, but that is one of the few advantages of hunting solo.  I'll be hunting mule deer west of Denver until friday, when my son will join me for a special youth elk hunt down near Trinidad.  We've got a week to get him his first elk.  Can't wait......

Hope your hunt starts out better than ours.  Buddy and I split up a ways, he stopped and dropped his pants to adjust his knee brace.  While his pants were down around his ankles, here comes the elk.  He tried to get a shot off, but was afraid he would roll down the hill.  Sorry to say, he missed the shot.  Lesson learned, keep your pants on when in the woods, you never know what will shot up.
