Last Sunday I was holding my youngest grandson and noticing his dad was listening I told Matthew "Listen to grandpa don't experiment with compounds because they are gateway bows that will lead you down a terrible path." my son who shoots a compound chastised me telling me not to corrupt the boys mind. I got to thinking though about when I shot compounds how everything had to be the latest whatchamacallit and the fastest whamadoohickey. I got tired of keeping up with all of the tech stuff which is why I switched. I have nothing against compounds but I do love the simplicity of my recurves and longbows. Now to work on my other two grandchildren. LOL

Corruption is in the eyes of the corrupter.....

Usually the only ones who view teaching,as corruption, have already formed thier opinion, and plan on passing it along.

Maybe your son could use alittle "learning"   ;)
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

He knows better he used to shoot recurves.

My son,who is eight, has a compound and a longbow, he shoots several times per week. I noticed his compound hanging up in the shop, with cobwebs on it... he actually shoots the longbow better because, for him its less complicated...I left it up to him and right now he likes shooting the longbow...If I were introducing him to a compound again it would be without the release, peep sight, kisser button, etc. A simple stick and string is a great way to introduce the youngsters to archery. The form transfers over well if they decide they would rather shoot a compound, later. With the information and support we have now, I'd bet that most kids would stick with traditional tackle...
