I bought an inexpensive takedown recurve -- a Samick Deer Master -- as a back up to my Ancient Spirits, and it came with just the standard B50 string. It is incredibly loud. I plan to add some acrylic yarn puffs and might also add brush buttons to calm things down a bit. What do you all use to silence your recurves?

Bow hush and cat whiskers(they work well and I have a huge roll of them otherwise I'd get some Hush Puppies).

The best silencer you can have

" a Whisperstik " of course they come with Beaver balls, but I don't think they need them.  Quietest bow I ever shot.

I 2nd the Bow Hush and Hush Puppies. Cheap and quick shipping. Ordered mine on a Tuesday and had it that Sturday.

Cat Whiskers.  My local shop also has fishing gear and we use Skirt material for spinner-bait / buzz-bait.  Come in a ton of colors and cost less.

bow hush with hush puppies! Worked fantastic on my howatt hunter 55# @ 28" drawn to 31".

Just find the thread Apex Predator did on wool silencers and make up a couple of sets. I even put a set on my Whisperstik, it was quiet before, but now it's about the same as my Hill longbow. Plus, for $7 worth of Merino wool yarn, I've made 15 pair and still have plenty of materials left.

Bow Hush and Hushpuppies.  Measure the distance between where the string first contacts the limb when bow is strung.  Divide this distance by 3 and 4. For instance if it is 48 inches you would get 16 and 12 inches.  These are the distances from string/limb contact point to put your silencers.  Just split each hushpuppie in half and 1 set will cover the 4 spots.  Makes for a very quiet bow along with some bowhush.  Joseph

Does this work for longbows as well as recurves?  Is it just based on string vibration and not the bow type?  I have some new strings and Hush Puppies to set up.

It should work on any bow type.  With a longbow your contact points would be the string grooves where as a recurve it is several inches before the string grooves where it first contacts the limb.  The theory is based on the harmonics of a vibrating line just like a guitar string.
