Does Magnus or Zwickey have the best 4 blade insert system? What is your favorite 4 blade broadhead, and will I get complete penetration from a 4 blade with a 52# @ 27" Fedora recurve?

I like the Magnus system, the bleeder blades are short and sharp on the front & back which I think makes for a better cutting situation if the blade dosen't pass all the way through...which leads to your next question. Whether you get a complete pass through depends on what animals your shooting, how far away you are from the target, and whether or not you hit any bones. No real way to say yes or no to a pass through question like that in my opinion.
But I think 52#s is heavy enough for most game animals.

Since you are from GA, I'll assume that you are talking about penetration on deer.
Both Magnus and Zwicky work  good and the penetration should be fine with either. There are too many variables involved to say that an arrow will pass through but with a tuned arrow, enough arrow weight and good shot placement, it should happen much of the time.   Not real traditional but Muzzy four blades seam to penetrate exceptionally well and are tough.
I have been disappointed with the penetration of most 3 blade heads that I have tried.

I will be hunting deer and hogs. I shot Magnus 1 broadheads last season with good results. Would blood trails from a 4 blade be significantly better than a big 2 blade with same shot placement?

I switched to the Muzzy Phantoms this year. Way sharper than magnus and I like the 220 grain weight. IMO, best 4 blade out there.

I shot Zwickey 4-blades for a number of years -- both Eskimos and Deltas. Ine thing I really liked about them was the ability to use a long, stronger adapter.

My vote goes to the Muzzy Phantom....fly great and super sharp.

I'm going to try the Phantoms as well this year. I have a question also since we are on the subject.....

Do you guys sharpen the tip on the phantoms? The sides are way sharp, but the tip doesn't even have an edge on them...

I noticed that too and did the "moose hide" test.
Pushed through very easily. Less than 2 lbs of pressure which is about the same as most of the cutting type heads.

I would look at the NAP Razorbacks. They fly perfect, and are dead quiet in flight. There are 4 blades and out of shooting the magnus, steelforce, and g5 montech, they have given me the best penetrationa and flight out of my 55# @ 28" Cooperhead elite recurve. They also sharpen with no problem.

For heavier arrows the phantom is my first choice in a 4 blade.It comes very sharp and is stainless so no rust.It is also about the largest head out there in a screw-on you can get in a 125gn weight.On lighter arrows and using lighter bows I like the little stinger 100gn buzzcut.

Shooting into the hindquarter of a 3d target. When I shot a compound last year I would shoot the broadheads I was testing into the backend of a 3d target that had not been shot and see which one got the best penetration. I shot 4 deer last year with a 90gr 4 blade muzzy because it gave me the best  penetration into the hindquarter of a 3d target, and had all pass thru except a spine shot that almost was a pass thru.

When I shot the steelforce premium, the magnus stinger, g5 montech, and the razorback's, the razorbacks gave the deepest penetration out of the 4 with my recurve. I know the test is not on flesh, but the hindquarter of a 3d deer that has not been shot has been effective for me to know which one is giving the deepest penetration. I do not shoot them into the vitals, but only into areas that have not been shot. I have been very impressed with the nap razorbacks and look forward to havesting my first trad deer this year with them. The razorbacks are worth looking at they are very sharp out of the packet and held the edge great while shooting into the target, and were easy to get back to shaving sharp.

I had some razorback 5's several years back. They penetrated well but the diameter was pretty small. Which one's are you talking about?

Sorry I have been working, The 125gr are 1 1/8 cut with 2 bleeder blades.

I had some problems with the bleeder blades jamming back into my arrows with the Phantoms.  Is there something you can put between the heads and arrow to solve this.  Those 220 grainers would be perfect for my setup.  I shoot the axis shafts and had the bleeder jam back and cut my arrow into.

I've shot the Muzzy Phantoms for years through many critters.  They are tough with thick metal blades.  I switched to the Magnus Stingers last year and shot 7 whitetail with them.  The main blades are not as wide and the bleeder blades are tiny.  I think the Magnus's penetrate better due to the smaller width of the blades.  I can get the stingers very sharp with my KME. Actually sharper than I can the Phantoms. Sticking with the Magnus again this year.

Get a pack of both and make up your own mind.
