I will receive my new bow this week and have short time to get things right before my Elk hunt.  I am confident I can pick it up and shoot it well within a day or so but I am a little worried about my arrow setup. So here it goes.
60lbs Sovereign Ballistik, fast flight string (28" draw)
29inch 2219, Bear SS broad heads (I already have these)
Have some 10 grain adapters and 5gr ppd weights
Do you think I have what I need to make it work?

How heavy of a point?

Those 2219 are gonna be a little on the stiff side, I'd go with 150 gr. point as a minimum.

I think it will work fine.  A ballistic is a high performance bow and at least cut to center if not centershot, and you can overspine by a bunch.  Would also handle a heavier head if you want, but won't be necessary.

That's what I figured.  Wish I had some heavier broadheads but the weights will have to do for now.

Unbeknownst to so many trad shooters, there is nothing less deadly about an unflat flying arrow.  A little arc in the trajectory due to a heavy arrow is nothing to be afraid of.

Ditto with Richie........what ever the weight, a squiggly or poor flying arrow is a penetration robber. i rather have a slightly lighter arrow that flew like an asprin than an arrow that was heavy tipped weighted and flew untrue due to an unbalanced spline.........great way to test broadhead flight is buy a lighted nock and insert in back of your hunting arrow....then stump shoot at dusk.....you'll see real quick how TRUE your setup is

What spline arra do you shoot outa that Swamp Rooter anyway? Is the spline on a woodie much different than the spline on an aluminum? How bout the spline on those carbon jobs? Hard to scribble on a keyboard ain't it?

The spleene,spline,spine or deflection is deflection...the number of 1/1000 of an inch or centinmeters ( can't remeber) a 2#? weight deflects an arrow shaft downward from a parralell state( no matter the material) .  ......

my elk arrow is a 29" barrel taper North Mississippi Popular shaft from the vintage collection of Don Stokes SuperCeders vault. Tipped with a rare and out of production 1 7/8" Silver Flame 185 head accomplied with 3 barred Osceola Turkey feathers i home ground, weighing in at 780 grains....so in short I have a $2 arrow with a $40 broadhead and free fletchings.......

Can you really overspine an arrow that much if it is center cut?

Bear Heart...i cut my bows centershot and I shoot a 230 deflection or 100-110# spine wood arrow for 59# at 29".....bareshaft out ot 18yards and groups within a tennis ball with other fletched shafts. I can also shoot down to a lower spine of 70#..

groups the size of a tennis ball ?   with one arrow maybe.    :eek:   If you need a back-up to those fancy arrows on our elk hunt you can borrow some of my bargain barrel Cabelas arrows and 5 year old wodsmans , I may even put a new feather or two on it for you.

I killed my first bull with a 30" 2219 shot from a 67# Bamboo Longhunter from Dan Quillian, before he started Archery Traditions, and before I started making the Superceders. I used 160 g. Thunderheads. The 2219's should be OK with a heavy head, because that recurve will put more energy into the arrow. My Longhunter bareshafted with 90-95# wood at 28", before I had it reduced to 55#.

Not sure what I'm taking to Colorado yet, with only three weeks to go! Considering the recurve with 40# limbs, but I shot it some this week with the 61# limbs, and it really spits them out. Then there's my old standby, the 50# longbow, and the one I made an offer on this morning...

Don, I understand about too many bows , I envy Joebuck just having one , when we go on our hunt he knows which one he will hunt with, I still hav'nt made up my mind yet !

Thomas, Don't take the one you kilt the bear with in Canada or you'll come home with a spike. Your arras probably aren't splined correctly anyhow.
