This will be my first hunting season with a recurve.  I will be doing some treestand hunting for whitetails and am used to my compound.  It's arrow rest has a little keeper that will hold the arrow when it is hanging vertically from my bowhanger and the wind won't blow it off.  Now I shoot my recurve off the shelf and my arrow will not stay on the bow when hanging.  I have seen the stick-on gadgets from 3 rivers but wasn't sure about them.  And there is no way that I could drill in my Fedora to attach something.

What do you guys do to keep your arrow on your bow while waiting for the big one?  I have seen some great ideas on this site and I am sure someone(s) has a solution for me.  Or testify to the greatness of the stick-on gadgets.

I use a stayjack arrow holder.  Either slide the spring arm bracket under the leather grip on my bows, or, if no leather grip, I use double back tape to affix it to the bow.  Never drill holes in your bow if you don't need to.  Good luck.

I hold my bow and make sure the nock is just tight enough to stay on the string. Too many deer have shown up at close range unexpectedly.

I really like the matchstick/toothpick idea but I tried it on my recurve and the toothpick isn't long enough.  The rubber band pops off due to the wrap around the sight window.  If they only made them an inch longer.  Any suggestions on how to get the toothpick too work?

Check my thread from yesterday about arrow holders.  Whip and Kip were kind enough to share some pictures of simple arrow holders. I like the ruber band holders because they do come off as soon as you start your draw.  Always ready for deer.

I don't have a need for on my recurve (Morrison ILF, Cheyenne style riser).  The shelf is cut deep enough that arrow isn't prone to falling off.  When I did use a holder years ago I believe it was called a "Sta-Jac"??

I like both the Kwik-loc and the sta-jac. I have an easier time finding the Kwik-loc, that's what I tend to use most. Can't say anything bad about either type, just use one, because when that arrow falls to the ground, I guarantee it'll noisily bounce off something on the way down. Been there...

You can get linger toothpicks - like the ones they hold big deli dandwiches together with (yum - dang, now I'm hungry...)

Whittle a piece of wood or an old arrow shaft and drill a small hole in it and buy some black elastic sew together after you pull one end through. You could make one out of bone or antler. Mike

I will try to find the "Deli" toothpicks.  I personally like that setup the best.  I also might try to make my own setup as David suggest.  Thanks again for all of your suggestions and product recommendations.  Now all that is left is going out into the woods and getting my first traditional kill!
