Do you selfbow/natural bow builders have an opinion about using trees for bows that have died before they are cut? I suppose it would make a difference what type of tree. I'm looking at trying to get a red cedar that has died. I won't necessarily use it for a bow, but it got me thinking.

Eastern red cedar is especially rot resistant, Bona. If it had died recently(within the last coupla years) I think it could be used as bow wood if you were so inclined.

Bow wood = Yes it is a juniper. You can also smoke/cook with it, Cedar gives food a great sweet taste. You can also make shafts for arrows, knife handles, snake beater, cut them up in small pieces and simmer Smells great in the winter, plus if you have forced heat it puts moisture in the air.
