Cordovan or Leather?

Is there a difference in the texture of cordovan and leather? What I mean, is leather softer? I understand that cordovan is leather, but is it harder than other leather? I've shot the Black Widow tab for years with no problems. I switched to a cordovan tab in  December and now I rub my lip raw. I actually switched to a glove thinking it was the tab. But today I thought about when this started and  it was when I switched to cordovan. I shoot sooo much better with a tab than with a glove. Any advice welcome.

BTW- Anyone got a web page for Black Widow Tabs?

Thanks,

Mike

I tried pasting a link to tabs but you have to be a memeber of Widow Wall Forum I guess
Cordovan will give you a much smoother release Which tab are you using that rubs the lip raw?

The cordovan rubs my lip raw.

I've trimmed the tab until I'm almost shooting barefingers.

Cordovan is much thicker and stiffer than cow hide, horses have much thicker skin so thicker leather. I shoot nothing but cordovan as it holds up so well. I have shot the same tab for 7 years now!! Shawn

Cordovan leather is not always thick....I use a Cordovan tab from Alaska Bowhuntin co and it is only about 2/3 Oz....
And I love them, they never wear out, they just get better....
And it may not be your tab hurting your lip, it could be your finger nail....

Yes, cordovan can be processed in different thicknesses, just as cowhide can be. Cordovan is better because it's from only a small area on a horses flank and is processed over many weeks to get those "cordovan" qualities. It is slick, practically waterproof, and expensive.

Having said that, I don't see why the cordovan would be rubbing your lip raw, unless it has to do with the cordovan being slicker causing your fingers to release more suddenly. I wouldn't give up on cordovan. I've tried a lot of different things, but cordovan is what I shoot.

I might just stick with the glove. I can't understand why the tab all of a sudden started doing this. I shoot good with the glove, but better with the tab.
Mike-Good point, but I don't have any nails. Chew on them too much. Plus it was never an issue before.
Thanks to all.

Where is a good source to get a cordovan tab?

Are they available with the finger spacer as well?

britts

Gator1..just about all the traditional shops have cordovan tabs...the Footed Shaft, 3 Rivers and probably most others and yes you can get them with a spacer.

I just ordered one yesterday from tradtech.  Cartel was the brand-4.99. It did have a finger spacer, although I don't know about the quality, it's definitely cheap enough to try.

We make them also at Eagle's Flight Archery. We make several different styles of split and 3 under tabs.
