I'm not a spokesman for the club but feel a need to say this. On June 23, 2008 Herb Reynolds passed away. For those who didn't know Herb, you missed a great one. For those of us who did, he was an inspiration.

Herb was the founder of North Carolina's oldest and largest traditional archery club and it's long term president. At the recent NC Traditional Archery Championship that the club host every experiyear, Herb was there and active, but it was obvious that he was losing ground in the battle for life.

Every year Herb stops at every booth to say "hello" and talk a while. He made it a point to spend time with as many people as possible, and always made everyone feel very welcome.

One of the things that attracted me to Carolina Archery Club was the diversity and knowledge within the club and how no one tried to lord it over the rest. I give Herb credit for much of that. There are good people at Carolina who will step up to lead, but I don't know of anyone who can give what Herb did. He and his wife were the heart and soul.

Farewell friend and you will be missed. Next year, at the NC Traditional Championship, I will see you if only in my mind. Especially at the Sunday morning service up on the knoll where Herb often gave testimony. Thank you Herb for your friendship.

Don, I spent a good bit of time with Herb at Hickory this year. He asked me to build him a bow and I found a great osage stave with the guy set up below you. I will make the bow and donate it to CTA next year in Herb's memory.
 I enjoyed talking to you and your wife at Hickory. We'll have to do it again next year. Some "Herb" stories will be in order!       Pat

A long time ago a very wise and old man said to me:

" never say goodbye to those that stand and give testimony, of their Lord and Savior, just say see you later"

It sounds like Herb was just that type of person, he gave of himself, and thought more others, because in the starting of this thread Herb was there.  It looks like he gave enough of himself that it impressed upon you, and now you're passing it on to others.  There may not be one individual to take his place, but he will filter through many of your lives.

We knew Herb, he always stopped by our tent when we crossed paths and one of the trad events. He was a treat to talk to about the past.
We at Sipsey River will miss him.

Again, I am glad to see folks joining in with comments/stories regarding this very reachable NC traditional archery/bowhunting icon, who never seemed to think of himself as that. He will be missed in many arenas, hearts, and minds.

The first all trad shoot I attended was at Herbs house on about 1990. At that time my oldest son, Brian was 6. Herb spent about 2 hrs throwing disks in the air for him to shoot. I thought it was way cool. I know that Brian has never forgotten that and was sad to learn of Herb's passing. I rekon he's shooting with Howard and Fred somewhere . DB

Don, that sounds typical of Herb. I went to the Reynold's house also in the 90's. On one particular day it was raining like cats and dogs and the guys (me included) were going into the house and just generally making a mess. Mrs. Reynolds was very gracious to put up with us, but she did it with a smile.

Pastor Carl, I believe that you said it right. Herb was a giving person. Probably it will take a number of people to take his place.
