Hi all, I'm a toelke lover who's had a few 66" whips and now love my 2 68" Super D's. I draw a true 30.5-30.75". Looking to add a 64 or 66" whip. I will talk to Dan of course, just curious anyone's experiences with both lengths. Especially if you're a long draw. I think the 64" has a bit more R/D? Thanks for any insight!

McDave

I picked the 66" Whip just from looking at your title, before I even saw that you had longer than a 30.5" draw.  My DL is about 27.75".  I sold a 64" Whip some years ago and have been thinking about buying a 66" Whip ever since.  The guy I sold it to moved to NM shortly after he bought it from me, and sent me a text recently thanking me for selling him the Whip and telling me about all the game he has taken with it since he moved to NM.  That's the only thank you letter I have ever received from someone I sold a bow to.  Maybe if I was going to hunt with it, I would consider a 64" too, but when I have a chance to hunt I grab one of my recurves.  If I bought the 66" Whip, I would be using it mainly for recreation and 3D, and I think the 66" would draw a little smoother and I could get off the string a little better.

Thanks McDave. I should have mentioned it would be a hunting bow. Though I knave no problems at all with my 68" super d. I like long longbows. But I've heard a few times here and there how the 64" whip is the "crown jewel" so to speak of the whip lineup. And it was Dan Toelke himselfs bow of choice for many years. Which made me think maybe he really put a lot of time/effort into that particular length and model.

I had both, at the same time, and was able to do a lot of side by side shooting. I still have the 64, and sold the 66 back to the guy I bought it from. I have a 28¼" DL and talked with Dan extensively about which length of the Whip would be optimal for me when I ordered one. He told me the 64 was the sweet spot for a Whip and that it "comes alive at 28". In my side by side comparisons between the 2 it was easy for me to tell the difference. Although the 66 was smooth as glass, I could tell that I wasn't optimizing the limbs and getting everything out of the bow at my DL. For someone with a longer DL, I'd bet that the 66 would be hard to beat.

Sorry, no experience here with the 66, but I have a 64" and 29 inch draw length. It's super smooth and stable and my favorite bow I've ever had.  I'm sure Dan will give you the best advice anyone can provide.
