I typically hunt with bows between 56" to 64" and currently with a 60".  I don't consider those long by any means but the state land that I hunt has gotten so overgrown the last couple years that I feel like I'm packing an 8 foot 2x4 and getting hung up and smacking into everything.  What are some good options that are 56" or less for a 27.5" draw and a pretty tight budget?

Lots of 70s era recurves fit those specs. Online sales sites usually have some listings, probably because they'll show you how clean your release is not.

A clean example shown to be twist free, when both strung and unstrung, is usually a safe bet.

There are several makers of short longbows.  Check the advertisements up top, and the classifieds.

I picked up a 13" VPA riser on their yearly black Friday sale and with short ILF limbs it makes a 54" bow.  I shoot it with medium limbs for a 56" bow. Total cost just over $500 new, but you can also find these used for less.

Never mind....I went and dug out my 50 inch Shrew Scout, I thought I would shoot it a bit before I put it up for sale. But now I love it again. Sorry, you can't have it  :biglaugh:

Get yourself one of Steve Gorr's Cascade bows.  He's still making a few.  Fantastic design, yet very affordable.  If you can find one, they're usually between $300-450 used.  52" is what I've seen the most in the used market, but he makes a great 56" as well.  I think this would be the best option for a top-notch short bow on a budget.
Life is a whole lot easier when you just plow around the stump.
