Lots of us here have a fondness for old production bows. Over the last 10 years or so, I've gotten into a Bear T/D kick.As many of you know, I have been struggling with hand issues the last few years. I just started shooting again this year after taking a year off. I started with a 1969 Bear Grizzly that I have had for many years. Once I regained the strength in my right hand and arm, I dug out my compass Kodiak, put it together and strung it up. I have been practicing with it, and I'm getting much better! However, a demon has returned... Ocassionaly, when I draw, there is a "tick" I posted about it here, and I have tried all of the common suggestions. However, the "tick' remains?
Yesterday, I was downstairs looking at my bow rack. 5 beautiful old Bear Grizzlys hanging there collecting dust. Looking at them, the many fond memories with each of them started coming back to me.... So, I did what I figured any old Bowhunter would do.I reached up on the shelf, and took down the boxes for my compass Kodiak riser and limbs. I carefully unstrung my Kodiak T/D and took her apart. I carefully wrapped the riser and limbs, and placed them gently in their boxes, and put them away. One day, after I'm gone, my boys will want them....

Then, I took my 43# 1969 Grizzly off the rack. I slipped off the new endless loop string that I had put on a few  months ago. I opened one of my bow boxes and took out a package of brush buttons, and a package of "bow jacks" (sadly, you can no longer find the old 3 tab Kwikee silencers) I took the little cotter pin and gently threaded the bow jacks and brush buttons onto the string. Then I strung up the old Grizzly, checked the nock height, and adjusted the brace height. I slid the bow jack to about where I thought they should be, then I applied some good string wax and rubbed it in. Then, the moment of truth...  I took her out and shot her.
I would love to say that every shot was a bullseye, that my groups were as tight as ever, but sadly NO lol it's still too early for that. But my arrows flew like darts!! No fishtailing, or porpiosing, and just a dull "thump" on release. One thing for sure, this Grizz will hunt!!

For me that bow would be a Damon Howat Hunter.  Praying that it will find it's way home soon.

The last five or six years I have been hunting with a Red Wing Hunter of maybe '61 or '62. 

Wish I was holding up as well as my old bows have.
