finishing arrows

this is my first rodeo when it comes to finishing arrows if yall could give me some advice i would appreciate it. I am using bohning products i have gasket dippers and regular dippers a crester i just need to know what order to go in. Do i go stain, crown, crest, clear. Or is it stain, crown, clear, crest. and if i let the crest dry can i clear again in both sircumstances. Thanks for your input and time

Everything I have ever read about arrows says to stain, seal with one coat, then crest and or crown dip. Then you can put another few coats over everything and call them done.
On a side note, if you are using bohning, use ALL bohning. There are some issues if you try to mix bohning with other stuff....trust me on that one.
You better order another set of shafts, because once you are done with the first you will be hooked.

Sounds like you should be all set! Dont sweat the little mistakes at first....they will still fly. Have fun.

i know but im ocd not really but i like every thing to be perfect. I would rather waste 16 hours making it perfect than do it in four and not have it come out the way i wanted it. NO wonder so many people shoot carbons. they just dont have the patience.

Many ways to get it done, find what works for you.

I check for straight, stain, seal with two coats of Super Coat, crown dip then crest. Finish with fletching.
I owned a bohning crestor, not happy with it. I bought a pro-crestor from Whispering Winds. Pricey but your finished arrows will prove the money well spent.

I do mine in the same order as JDS but I also put a coat of clear over the crest/crown before I fletch. I use Minwax Polyurethane instead of the Bohning.

Celticknot, patience is going to help you in making arrows. Straighten the shafts well before anything else (crester can help with this), and get your nock and point tapers as perfect as you can. A disk sander and guide block is the best way to do this. Fancy paints won't make your arrows shoot well; good straight matched shafts with true tapers will.
