I am going to replace my factory string with a fast flight plus string from three rivers.  I have a Martin Hunter 62"amo.  My question is what length string do I need to buy for a 62"amo bow.

I have a 62 inch AMO bow and I shoot a 58 1/2 inch string, I think there is a formula for figuring this out but mine works out fine.

AMO 62"-4=58" for Recurve

Amo 62"-3=59" for Longbow

Unreliabe to use the AMO formula of -4 for recurve and -3 for longbow.  Amount of curve in limbs and amount of deflex in riser is different from bow to bow.  Best to measure current string.  String bow, set brace height, then measure.  I have 60" recurve that takes a 57 1/2".  Acute radial curve.

AMO standard is given AMO bow length minus 3" EVERY time! In fact, the string lenght is what defines the bow lenght per AMO standard.
RC -4" and LB -3" will do for some bows, but it is NOT AMO and should not be confused with it.

If your bow says AMO 62" order a string for AMO 62" - which would then be close to 59" lenght, loaded condition.

Nor'easter and Falk nailed it.  AMO states that the AMO bow length is 3" longer than the string length at brace.  String length is to be measured at 100# tension for everything except 10 strand dacron strings, which are to be measured under 50# of tension.

However, that doesn't amount to a hill of beans if the bowyer/manufacturer doesn't follow AMO specs, or if the archer prefers to tune their bow outside of the specs.  Very few string makers follow AMO specs either--especially the measureing under tension part.

If 3 Rivers doesn't pre-stretch their strings, you'll probably want one 4" shorter than the AMO, because it's going to settle in quite a bit and that should allow you some room for twisting.
