Does anyone know of any books written about Bart Schleyer?
I'd like to learn more about the man.

The last couple of Traditional Bowhunter Magazines had an article by Mike Mitten that was very informative.  I think that might be as close as you get.

Chad Slagle(The Singing Bowyer) has a song about him.

You might try checking out some books about Paul Schafer.  They will contain info about Bart prior to Paul's death.  They were hunting buddies.

Recently I bought a video at a yard sale called Tigers of the Snow by National Geographic just because I thought it might be interesting and it turns out that Bart is in it quite a bit.  The video isn't about him but he's one of the main researchers in it.  Shows him dart a couple tigers from a helicopter.

It was real interesting that at one point while a radio collared female tiger was away from her den he crawled into the den to inspect the cubs and suddenly the collar signal started getting stronger indicating the mother tiger was heading back towards the den.  NOT a position I'd want to be in....  Pretty cool video.

Lookin at the web site, that article about Paul in the traditional bowhunter magazine is one of the reason's I bought a silvertip, and got into trad as a young teenager switching from wheelies. That and alot of the videos by Barry and Gene, Paul Brunner, and Stoney Creek.

Shame those two have passed, funny how life works. The greatest ones are never known until they are gone and others tell stories of their accomplishments.

Bart had to be into weight-lifting. You don't get arms like that just yanking on a bow-string!

Dave, that sounds like an interesting documentary. Amazon.com sells it on DVD for anyone who might like to get a copy.

Bart has been a role model all my life. He sounds like an amazing guy I wish I could've met him and learned from him because its wierd how much we have in common. Thats why I look up to him so much. I hunt, build selfbows, do wildlife photography and artwork, I am going to school to become a wildlife biologist and tan my hides, everything which he did very well. I think thats why I respect him so much, he was not only an amazing hunter, but scholar, athlete and artist. If anyone knows of any resources about him or that he did I'd love to see them.

One of Bart's bows is listed on **** auction site right now with proceeds going to Bart's son.

Bart lifted weights to stay in shape, but he also worked hard. Fleshed a lot of heavy capes at Fosters Taxidermy during the off-season. Ha!

Thanks for the info Gene..... Bart's bows whether made by him, or dedicated to him by another bowyer are hard to come by.
