I have a 60" htunder stick X and am going to need to replace the string soon and was woundering how to determine the new string length.  I have heard that you minus 4 inches from the bow amo length.  Is this correct.  Cause the string thats on the bow now measures 56" to the inside of the loop, which makes the present string the correct length.   Thanks.

I had a thunderstick X great bows I use the minus 3 on Longbows and minus 4 on Recurves.

I like to twist them a little tight and then back off a little to get my brace height.

if you ever decide to try something new give me a holler.

Rob's right and most of the string makers will advise this same information for most bows.  There are a few bowyers who do not use this standard but most string makers know them and can advise you on that as well.

I like to measure the actual string that is on the bow for best fit.Bows are different,I have 3-64" bows and each one is a different length.I have a 21st Century Edge that is 66" but when I measure it ntn it is 64"ntn but my string on it is 62&3/8" and that gives me a 6&3/4" brace.Thats why I prefer to measure the actual string length on the individual bow.The -3 for longbow and -4 for recurves is a good general rule but does not always work when the string is missing, but measure the string.

When measuring the string, is it measured from end to end, or from the Y of the loop to the other Y?
