I got some days off,so I took my tripod, dog, bow, and brews to the back of my property. I'm making some beans and my hog from my Crane Texas hunt.

Mike as soon as this coroan crap is done we will definitely get together. My old lady takes it very serious,so right now I'm social distancing from her too.

There's a guy north of me too,and a guy out of s.a. we could have a heck of a party.

This is a good thread, I like to cook in a DO too and almost all my skillets are cast iron. I made a homemade tripod a long time ago and it is similar to yours. Keep us updated and get some shots with the lid off so we can see the good stuff!
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

Here ya go KS the beans are still hard so waiting to put the meat in. I'm glad though i get to drink a few more :biglaugh: I'll post a pick when I dump the meat in. I love to do corn bread in a smaller one I have ,but I'm too drunk to fool with that now.

Ray Lyon

Two of the finest things I've ever eaten came from Dutch ovens.  First was Ron LaClairs bear roast.  One of the finest pieces of meat ever.  Second was Theresa Asbell's peach upside down cake.  Theresa is a master at Dutch oven cooking.

Enjoy gentleman.

You didn't smoke the pork first! We don't have the Corona-19 here we have the Keystone light-30 and Bud Light -30! LOL. I like to dump in a can of green chilis and cook my corn bread in a 8" cast iron skillet with a lid using it like a DO. Preheat it real good then through in a 1/4 stick of butter, then the batter and it really gets crusty.

Your pup and mine look about alike.  Dutch oven cooking with our scouts over the years I learned a few things.  One is don't burn it if you want an easy clean up.  Two is if you're baking something sweet use a liner.  Three, scouts will never get them cleaned well enough.
I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

My son got me started on this last Christmas with Kent Rollins' Cowboy Cooking book and some of his accessories.  Since then I've become a fan of his YouTube videos, which include some good ones on cast iron care and seasoning.  This has turned out to be one of the best Christmas presents he ever gave me, because it gives me something interesting and entertaining to do at home while we wait out the quarantine.

This is the last thing I made, stew topped with sliced potatoes and cheese.  Here it is getting started:

And here is the final product:

Woooo I'm not feeling good at all today. Twelve Budweisers will do it.

KS when I make a stew I brown the meat. I wasn't taking it as serious as I normally do yesterday.

I've done corn bread and didn't have it stick, I will keep that in mind with the liner.

That looks good McDave what is on top potatoes?

McDave

Yea, it started out to be shepherd's pie, but by the time I got the stew part done it was a little too soupy and too much quantity for shepherd's pie, so I just sliced the potatoes on top instead, and when everything was cooked, I browned some cheese on top of the potatoes.  One of the things I have found about Dutch oven cooking is that if you put good things in, it will probably come out tasting good even if it didn't come out exactly like you planned.
